  • Egr

My 91 firebird's been running rough. The idle isn't consistant and it stalls out ever so often. I put new plugs, wires, airfilter, oil, and it's pretty much the same (it needed all these anyway).
When I hooked it up to a scantool it ahd an EGR error message. Does anyone know anything about these?
I'm much more active on TGO as they have more info pertaining to my model, but I do stop by from time to time.

Whats the exact code number, There are sevral diffrent things that can cause an egr code,
1)The soliniod going bad-If you have a soleniod thats electronicly controled
      2) The egr valve pintle sticking-most likely cause
      3) your intake manifold is plugged/gummed up and the egr passage is clogged restricting airflow.

I'll have to scan it again to get the exact code. Where is the egr on these things? I think it's that little thing right under the manifold, right?

If it is just sticking, what can I do to fix it? I'm pretty mechanically inclined so I like to do stuff myself rather than paying.

Wouldn't that make it worse? I stalled at a light today, I gotta do something with this.

If it stalled out it sounds like its stuck open, Just take it off and clean it out. And drive it around to see if that works.

yank the egr off, cut some metal to cover/"block" off the tube on the exhaust manifold & intake manifold, bolt that on and you'll be fine

or buy a kit if you're lazy. Honestly, I have access to a full machine shop, and I buy a kit for a piece of aluminum with 2 holes in it!
