  • MSD 6A mounting

    Hey everyone.

I bought an MSD setup for for 87 IROC really cheap... Blaster ignition, Pro billet Dist, 6A ign box and 8.5 mm wires.... My question to all of you is, where did you mount the MSD 6A box... I am looking for ideas and pictures if you got em.

My car is a completely stock 350 TPI (except a mild cam) and the engine comp is packed. I was thinking about mounting it inside the car..

    thank you for your help!!!

Looks good in your engine bay... unfortunately, I have the factory coolant bottle there.....

If I can't find a good spot under the hood, I'll end up tucking it under the dash... It will look stock that way.

there has to be more than one 3rd gen here with MSD ignition.... I'd really like some input, you can see the engine bay is bone stock - and packed!

This probably won't do ya any help seeing as all of the amenities on my car are long gone. But here's a pic of mine that I had on my PC at work. You can see the end of it on the firewall at the far left. I've got some better pics at home.

Clean bay, but I've got AC... so you're right - won't work in my case.

                  Thanks for the pic though!

Do you still have the AIR on your car?

If so, ditch it - it literally does nothing.

What about a shelf or plate mounted above the vapor canister? I could be mounted either to the forward sheetmetal or maybe off the side where the horns are mounted. L shaped maybe.

I had a few ideas about where to put it... I thought about fabricating a bracket by the MC by extending the relay board... I was just hoping to see how someone else did it first....

Yes it has Air... and it works. No way would I get rid of it. This is my daily driver, summer 90 degrees... in the sun all day, nothing beats remote start and the A/C for a comfortable ride.

If you were talking about the Air pump and emmisions... It is going to stay too. The car is all original down to the paint and only 31K miles- I don't mind bolt ons but I don't want to start messing around taking stuff off that detracts from it's originality.

Yeah, mine doesn't work, though I'd like to get a new compressor to replace this one...or maybe I'll ditch it and throw a supercharger on it...

That's what I was talking about. Okay, whatever, it's your car.

It's hard to even bolt on stuff with all that shit in the way, though.

It is definitely difficult to work on with the smog plumbing everywhere, takes an hour to change the plugs without a hoist...

But they are only original once and how many third gens have you seen that look like they drove off the showroom floor? I can't tell you how many people have aksed to photograph everything on the car becuse they are restoring one. It really is pretty much a benchmark car.

I'd be more apt to rip stuff off if someone had messed around with it before I got it. But I've had the car since it was 7 years old and back then it only had 8,000 miles on it.

Yeah, that definately makes it easier to start doing stuff to it.

When I bought my car (little less than a year ago), pretty much everything done to it had been done. Headers, AIR and Cat removed, Headers, you know, that type of stuff.
