  • help my engine gets to hot

well my engine runs good and is timed right it has all it's fluids but we had it running for about 3 min about 30 min ago and the headers on the passenger side got so hot they turned red and all of my hoses that the coolant runs threw are all to warm so can any of you tell me whats going on. i think the water pump took a crap and thats why the hoses are to warm but what about the headers.

are your fans kicking in? what does your water temp gauge read? the headers can get hot if your heads are not being cooled by coolant. Do you have coolant?

RPMS=Revolutions per minute. Is the engine running pretty fast to get so hot in a hurry? Is the engine new? Details please

If your headers are getting extremely hot I would say you have a clog in your exhaust someplace.

Is it possible that the thermostat in the 4-Bbl intake is stuck closed?

Rich would not make it run hot, but lean condition would.

Did you set the distributor advance with a timing light?

that would exsplain the extra smoke from the exhaust we figured that was from it being tilted so much. how do you make it not so rich.

the thermestat is brand new. and we timed it to the 8 past the 0 the 8 closest to the drivers side

If Choke butterfly is closed, it will run rich. You can set the idle mixture with needle vavles . Is it a Rochester Quadrajet? Computer controlled or not?

I suspect that the overheating is an ignition timing issue or low coolant.
