so do i set it to the first time the piston rises or the second time. because my dad was the last one to play with it, he got up sunday before i did and reset it all before i got up.

To be sure I would also pull the valve cover and check to make sure both valves are closed (Rockers are down). If its on the exhaust/intake stroke one or both valves will be open (depending on your cam). I also always like to take a small short screwdriver and stick it in the plug hole after I think I'm at TDC and make sure I can touch the piston with it.. Those 2 things should be a surefire way to know you are on the compression stroke at TDC.Originally posted by 1BADAIR View Postput your finger over the number 1 hole. turn engine over (in the correct direction)with a wrench until air comes out. thank you thank you thank you my car starts now it will only run for a second or two but it starts. thank you everyone for your advise the coil in the dist was 180 degrees off. now i need to turn the dist back and forth slowly while it is starting to figure out where it will stay running right thats what i think i need to do. you guys can probly tell this the first car that i have really worked on. anymore advise would be greatly apreciated.

yeah i am going to put more gas in the tank tommorrow thats all i can think of the fuel pump is good and it's not coming up the line i put 4 gallons in it and probly a gallon came out the line when i changed carbs. well here is the engine you have been helping me on i know it's not much but it is what i can afford.Attached Files
