  • 1980 Z28 Value?

Hey everyone. I was wondering what this car is worth...average? Not my favorite Camaro ever made but the price tag is quite attractive. They want $1000. Says its got holly 4 barrel, auto trans, but needs a tune up. Says it does run. Obviously its not in the best shape, but for $1000...or less this might be something fun to play with. Heres some pics I snapped with my iPhone. It does have some rust on the fenders, and mis matched tires. crack in the windshield...and everything else you see. Guy that owns it is my gf's x-bf, but he's always been cool with me. What do you think?

    Interesting...I'll let Doug chime in, but I don't think it's a Z28.

Check out the rear sub-frame to see how rusty it is, but doesn't look like too bad a ride from 2 pics...

      no engine pics?

I think the spot you need to check for rust on 2nd gens is where the leaf springs on the rear axle mount to the chasis... but im no expert on 2nd gens.

paint the headlight pockets black ASAP (and i think this is something that might have been characteristic of a base model car... but it looks like Z28 on the steering wheel.)

How can you tell if its a z28? Im a total noob with 2nd gens. If I get the vin, we can tell from that right?

Z28s should have a tach...I don't see one there...wrong hood...wrong grille...wrong fenders...and it's missing the spoilers, and/or even holes where spoilers would attach...won't go into wheels or stripes as it's obviously been changed in the last 30 years.

              EDIT: Taillights are wrong too...

              So I really doubt it's a Z28.

But, yes, the VIN and data plate info will provide more insight...not as much as previous years, but some.

And Joel is right...but expand your inspection to the entire rear subframe area...2nd gens rot out from the back forward...

This is what a Z28 should look like...

Or the 250 cube sixer...those are always popular...lol...

Small wonder they all have crate motors dropped in 'em now...you rarely see original ones anymore...

Eh, if it's got a small block in it, it can go much faster and nobody would be able to tell from the outside...lol...

                      BTW, a Z28 in 1980 wasn't very fast either...lol...

I wish mine looked that way when I bought it.That is a real good deal for what he's asking.I agree with the rest of the guys I myself don't believe it's a real Z28 but not saying it ain't worth picking up.I agree with the whole sunroof thing mine has one and I hate it.

The 80's also had the 305 option as well that's what mine came with factory with a big whopping 155 horse.Wooo Hooo .lol

                            OK, it's not a Z but that's OK.
Check the rockers and rear quarters for rust and bondo. Doors and fenders are easy to replace.
ON THE UNDERSIDE!!! ..... Check the entire rear frame rails!!!

If the body and frame are good then it's a steal.

It's worse than my Camaro, performance-wise.

If I ever got my uncle's '81, it would receive a new engine...305 (Cali-flavor), but it does have a 4-speed...
