I'm over 6' tall, with unusually long arms, so I had the seat as far back as it would go Therefore, I needed the long shift handle, in order to comfortably shift the car.

Ahhh. I'm 6' tall with long arms as well, but it just was so imprecise trying to get to 1st or 3rd I wanted something shorter. But I don't sit that far back.
