Yesterday I saw a bronze-orange color 2nd gen Firedbird, and it looked pretty cool. It had a little damage done to it, but I still would have loved to drive it!

I think Camaros and Firebirds are the best cars ever created, as far as practicality and style go Also, I think she was just showing me what a 2nd gen F-Body would look like in my rearview mirror, as I mentioned before. That front end is the sexiest front end you will ever have scare the sh** out of you if it pulls up behind you! I would be sitting in my car, probably playing with the radio, and suddenly look at the rearview, and be like,"Whoa. That was freaky! A 2nd gen camaro! That scared the sh** out of me! I thought it was going to be another ricer, but instead, a 2nd gen f-body pulled up behind me!" lol (notice the tone of sarcasm lol)

Thanks everyone. The '81 is my new baby and one of those deals I just could not pass up.... unmolested, numbers matching and WELL under $1000...

Bought from the original owner who bought it in '81 and parked it in '88 (still has '88 plate on it). It was stored in a doorless garage under a tarp until I brought it home. 65,000 original miles and after 10 minutes of work under the hood and a set of tires it was running good enough to drive on the trailer.

It is all stock and even the stock radio and the wipers work!!! And it will be staying stock - so many of the base birds were TA cloned that it is hard to find a decent, all original one.

I brought it home and we gutted the interior - I was sure I would have to replace all floorpans, but it only needs one. It is getting repro interior (really just needs headliner and one door panel, but I'm doing it right), paint (again all original but I really have an urge to shoot blue TruFire on it because I'm getting pretty good at Trufire ) , hoses, belts, brakes etc.. and I will be driving it this summer. Next winter the engine will be pulled and rebuilt - it is a 265. (My 86 Bird has a 305 and the 89 TA has a 350)

So its not a TA then right? Cool, lots of work to do. I had a 79 'bird I never drove for about 2 years. It was going to be a project but I got a good offer for it so I sold it.

Now on this older is better thing, while I love old cars, I am a technology nut and love the newer technology, so I'm caught in the middle on this one. Just wanted to give my position.

I've always wanted to get a non-original first gen (non-original meaning the numbers don't match and stuff, so I wouldn't feel bad about customizing it) and then doing an entire makeover on it in the interior and have the carPC in it and everything. I always thought that'd be awesome.

Classic looks with modern technolgy, Good way to go B. Could just buy the '09 Camaro when it comes out, save the work, lol.

Actually, I've been toying with something for awhile. I love the 70-73 camaro's, especially the split bumper. To me its the cleanest best looking camaro ever, specially in Hugger Orange, lol. Anyway, with those becoming ever increasingly scarce, and cost rising, and me having a very straight and solid 2nd gen that is a hard top 4-spd car already. I've toyed with getting the front end parts (fenders, nose, bumpers, etc.) and rear valance to make mine look like a 70 split bumper (I think that's the year of the split or one of em). All the aftermarket repro parts are available, just have to buy them. I really don't think it would be a big deal, seeing all that is off the car anyway. IDK, what do you guys think?

I say go for it. I've seen it done with alot of 2nd gen T/A's. I'm actually thinking about turning my 78 into a 74 T/A with a Super Duty 455. Probably won't happen cuz I don't have the money to do it. But yeah early 2nd gens look really good.

I had a friend in HS that had a 75 with the 400 in it, it was sharp. Not to mention way faster than my cutlass with the 350, lol.

400's arnt to hard to come by these days and not super expensive i passed one up for like 100 bucks when i was in detroit last..complete motor with less than 50,000 on it just hadnt moved in forever... but yeah if your running a carb motor the 400 is the way to go for sbc... you dont need to spend all the money to notch the block or anthing you already have the stroke setup and 400 parts cost about the same as 350 parts do... the only thing that is even different is the bottom end... it will take all you heads cams and intake off whatever you already got... im gonna look for another one just as a backup motor..

No, this was a 400 Poncho motor, not a chevy. It was a torque monster!!!! One time we did race (I was in my cutlass) I got about a half a car on him cause he had no traction, then he went by me with smoke just rollin off the tires!!!!
