Thats sweet. it lifts the lifter right off the cam when you slide it in? Are those holes normally open or do you have to remove plugs in the block?2005 Yamaha R6

yeah, Tom what you do is after the rockers are off and the push rods are out, you throw a few bolts in the cam and spin the cam nice and hard a few times and the lifters will stay up because the lifter tray holds them up, then you slide the JPR tool in which is just a metal dowel with a flat spot that holds the lifters in place so that they don't fall. the lifter tray holds the lifters up, the JPR tool is just an "incase the lifter tray doesn't work" they hold them up so they can't fall....
the driveshaft thing is what i was saying was another option last night, just stick a pry bar between the yoke at the end (since whether you get a new driveshaft or keep the stocker, you'll need a 1350 (i think) yolk for the 9")1998 Camaro SS Bullseye Turbo

How hard is it just to take out the lifters? I know a LS1 and even a LT1 are both different then my 87 305. But I just took all my lifters out. I did however have to take out my spark plugs to thread a tool in to force air in the cylinders when I change my valve springs and valve seals, so my valves wouldnt drop down. Sorry for asking a dumb question.....I just never did any kind of work like that to a 4th gen motor before.sigpic

i was wondering, Even though i have the tool...do i still have to pop my valve covers off and pull the pushrods? I really hope i can just turn the cam and slide the tool in slowly. I already have the pushrods and springs installed. I dont really feel like having to take all that shit off again.1999 Turbo Trans Am WS6**Under Construction** Rear Mount Retired

i have no idea about LT1 motors as those are ancient now a days, but as far as LS1's to get the lifters out completely, you must remove the heads.
You have to pull the rocker arms off, and pull the push rods out because leaving both items in, the valve springs will be pushing on the rockers, the rockers pushing on the push rods, and the push rods on the lifters, you DO NOT want any sort of force or pressure on the top of the lifters or else they can fall down and some will make it to the pan, others will get caught between the rods and crank, some will get jammed in other convenient places that are extremely hard to get to (ask me how i know)
you would not be able to just "spin" the cam with the push rods and rockers on...the valve springs aren't that easy to compress while just spinning the cam by hand1998 Camaro SS Bullseye Turbo

Thats what i have always doneOriginally posted by MattODoomYeah.
On SBC and lt1, you have to take the rockers loose and pull the intake. You can reach down into the valley and pull the lifters out.
