Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!
If you have any problems with the registration process or your account login, please contact us!

Currently available options for stock idle/sleeper "big" cam? Dynos/Reviews?
If a 650 hp and 707hp modern cars can breath through cats...a LS1/LT1 will be fine.
I don't ever add cost, complication or any extra added potential failure to any of my cars.
My wife's car has a full catless turbo back exhaust, so the Camaro will be the same.
I won't be modifying my exhaust to hide a poorly specd camshaft. I will spec my camshaft so that it fits my requirements instead.
There are a few options that people have shown that I did miss but I think my best bet is to just go with my initial feeling of contacting a couple large companies and working with them to accomplish my needs.

Contact Martin at Tick, tell him Jon from Huron Speed sent you and he will get you set up with whatever you heart desires!

have fun with that..ill keep my poorly spec'd camshaft and loud exhaust.

As per my post(read OP). My specs will differ from most others.
Poorly specd for my desired application. Yours will(and does) differ. I will have fun with that, basically the only reason I bought the car was to have fun with it and build it with my son. Thanks for the advice.
You have a loud exhaust with cats? Did you build it wrong? Putting cats into any system will damn near silence it with no other help.
My exhaust will be loud(ish) without cats. As I'll be running the system over the axle and out the back with another set of 4inch round Magnaflows on either side to compliment the baby resonators built into the Huron Speed true dual system.
I don't want a loud car. I hate loud cars. I do however want an efficient car, if loud is the accompaniment to efficiency, then I'll deal with it. The car is just a fun toy regardless.
Wife's car is completely catless, 1 resonator with 2 mufflers and nearly silent. Don't need cats to be quiet or mellow. Just potential problems I'd rather not pay extra to deal with. I'll do an e85 tune if I want to smell cleaner air out of the tailpipes.
Yup. I've got Magnaflow bullet cats on mine and the rest of the exhaust is more restrictive than they are.
That's fantastic. I'm well aware of the advancements in catalytic technology and the fact that you lose very minimal amount of power with them installed correctly into a performance system. Sometimes power is even gained due to the heat creating velocity. It's of no matter to my setup.
Cats won't be going on the car to cover up a choppy idle. So it's irrelevant to this thread. I'll just spec the cam so it's not choppy even if I run open headers.
They aren't on it now, nor is any other emissions equipment and none will be going back on it. If I lived in a state where emissions or inspections was a requirement, I would move.
Edit. Apologies for going off topic.

If you want efficiency N/A you'll want overlap to help boost the VE. There are tricks you can do to the tune to tame the chop.
What kind of power and RPM band and power are you wanting? What are you using the car for? Is this a M6 car or auto?
There used to be some 400rwhp hp stock cam cars on LS1tech.com - they had stock idle but had AFR/Trickflow heads, FAST intakes and every other tweak done to them.
Martin @ Tick
Geoff @ EPS
Brian @ BTR
Ed @ FTI
and more
can all get you what you want.
If you want to leave me your e-mail address I can send you over a blank spec sheet to fill out and I can handle getting the cam spec'd for you. I can get it ordered with all other components you need for the best price as well: springs, pushrods, gaskets, bolts, etc.

I know I'll be giving up some efficiency to get the idle I want. And I'm not looking to spend money anywhere else on the engine right now, just not in the cards. I also want underhood appear as stock as possible, no fancy intakes.
Plus I want to slowly build this car. I'll do more later on.
I plan on spinning it to 6500-6600rpm. Don't want to do more than basic valve train work, rod bolts don't sound as simple as I'd prefer right now so I don't plan on adding them.
Car is an automatic. I plan on using a very loose converter to make the most out of it. Will be using oem M6 3.42 rear end.
I agree with your direction and like Jon is saying a custom cam is probably the way to go. Overlap gives you NA efficiency but it also causes chop so its a delicate balance. Duration and LSA determines your overlap. Lift doesnt really affect it, so id go as big as you can there without being abusive on the valvetrain. So id say higher lift, mid-low duration, and high lsa should put you where you want to be. Of course ramp rates can make or break the performance of a cam, that will be up to the manufacturer to determine. Aggressive ramp rates perform better but are harder on springs. Advance the cam for more mid range, retard for top end.

Good cats will barely affect volume at all. I only noticed the slightest change and it was more just a reduction in rasp.
