  • 98 firebird 6 cyl into a 96 6 cyl convertable camaro?

Any info is apreciated. What we have is a 96 camaro vert that has a blown 6cyl. I have a line on a 6 cyl from a 98 firebird. Will it work? How different are they. How many 6 cyls. were offered?

Should be a direct swap, plug and play.

ditto. Now if one was 99+ ... that would be a different story.

Ok, thats good. But now the question is do I want to? Would it be worth it? 96 convertible I would have around $2500.00 in when done. I would have to bring home the donor, strip it. Get rid of the junk. Bring home the roller. drop the k member. Do the swap. Get rid of the junk motor. My Z would have to sit outside while I did all this too. Im not diggin that idea. decisions decisions......

Damn it, the 98 isnt a 98 its a 2000. poop! How bad would this be to swap in? I would have the whole car, minus the front clip.

I am not an expert on 3.8s, but the 99+ cars are drive by wire which means it probably at least has a different throttle body, pcm, and harness. Cable drive FTW you dont want that laggy DBW sh**

So the basic engine is the same, I would just need to swap some stuff over.

Now the big question. Out the top or drop the k frame?

I will NEVER pull or install a motor from the top on a 4th gen again.

                Is that a good indication?

Actually my brothers 98 3.8 had throttle by cable. I'd V8 swap it

Yep, dropping it out the bottom is definitely way easier.

Ok, but is out the top that bad, or is out the bottom just that much easier.
I'm figiring it'll be worth $3500, -$4000 all done. Maybe a bit more, I still need to go look at the roller, its supposed to be nice.
The other oroblem is......I'm afraid Ill want to keep it.

I've thought this through. If I did a v8 it would have to be an ls. Then I would never sell it. Cant get my $ out of it if I'm driving it. Heck even if I did an lt I'd still keep it.

No, no......I dibt have room for anither car, or the money...or the time. Still.........hmmmmmmm....
