Yep, I have that same article it's in the '96 Daytona Program. There's no doubt that there are a few '96 BlackBirds. That's what has me so confused, could this be a left over from those, and then used again for '97 version??

Ok so after a year of drooling over this car (that's the first time I saw it on Ebay), it's official the car is a fake. I have the car fax in hand, it was never even remotely close to being in Florida.

        12/18/1992 Titled in Warren, Mi

        03/06/2007 Titled in Novi, Mi

        05/02/2007 Dealer Inventory w/25,000 miles

        05/07/2007 Ohio Dealer w/25,819 miles

        07/03/2007 Pennsylvania Dealer w/25,959 miles

        07/13/2007 Auto Auction-sold w/25,972 miles

        04/25/2008 Auto Auction-sold w/26,008 miles

06/11/2008 New York Dealer w/26,044 miles

So with all that, the miles are right. But it firms up our first suspicions, the car is nothing more than a '93 Trans Am.

Good detective work pays off in the end...unfortunately I'd wager the dealer has known this all along...and this implies he was intentionally misleading you...

Yeah, I'm guessing so. Should've pulled a CarFax a long time ago.

I guess now I'm on the search for a '96 Daytona Pace Car.

Yeah thanks for everyone's help/efforts, greatly appreciated!!!

I agree and it may not be so easy to just walk away from it.....There's just something about the look of that car (and the '96 Daytona Pace Car- BlackBird) that I really like. And I'm not a big fan of hardtops, but this one I could own. (might just have to keep the window down)

Does anyone know who the title was in Warren, MI? For all we know the car could have originally been titled by GM?

Look at Brian always raising another good point, the car was in the same hands from 1992-2007, could this have been GM, and then they sold it to the public in 2007? huh...

Very good point...but unlikely as the car was built 11/92 and not titled until 12/18/92.

And the first owner had it for 15 years.

But it could be very likely a GM employee...and that may explain the access to, what should have been, an impossible-to-find set of stickers...

Yeah, but its been from dealer to dealer since 3/2007. PA. auction is probably Manheim, they have one of the largest dealer auctions every couple of weeks. Dealer I worked for used to go there every month or so.
Still a good looking car, but could you own, drive, and show, it knowing its a fraud or a wanna be.

I guess it would help if I knew whether or not there was such a car used for the '97 Speedweeks. I know the car would still be a clone, but that would make me feel alittle better about owning/showing it. You can at least explain that there was such a car, but yours is a copy.

                            -vs-

So far all I know is it's a complete make believe and with that what do you tell someone when they ask you about it then??
