What are you basing the "1993" off of? Is that what they have it listed as or what the VIN says?

Oop's sorry about that, but yeah here's the door tag with the VIN. I tried to have a friend run that thru GMVIS, but he came up empty handed.

Pretty sweet looking except the big ole light on the roof. I'm assuming that red toggle switch in the center console is for the light up top.

found a pacecar database on the daytona website, in 1997 they used a grand prix.. id bet a pretty penny this is just a clone.

PS, there has been a TON of trans am pace cars, i guess it all makes sense but I had no idea Trans Am practically meant nascar pace car for so many years.

OK, a couple points to speculate on.

First, that doesn't look like a factory RA hood, or even close to one.

Second, the "Blackbird" decals are interesting...what are the odds that this is possibly an early Carl Black "Blackbird" that was converted to WS6? Maybe an early promotional car that was donated to the track? Carl Black is in the south, and while the Grand Prix was the official pace car, it is normal to have other models at the track as support vehicles.

You may have more luck going through the Daytona Carl Black dealership...

EDIT: It's also entirely possible that Carl Black was the staging dealer for all the pace vehicles, and just included this one because they were short one...

Isn't it amazing how many years the TA was the Daytona Pace Car!?!?!?

Ha Ha, probably not. But I do have plans to sell a couple toys this summer to make room for something different.

I to wondered about the Blackbird connection. The '96 TA that was used for the Daytona Pace Car was also called a Blackbird. I know you can't read that magazine ad I posted to well, but it states
"Keeping Nascar Wiston Cup in line requires a carefully restrained display of power. Enter Blackbird, a special edition of the available WS6 Firebird Trans Am. It has a Ram Air 305-hp V8 with a reputation as long as Woodward Avenue. A race-proven suspension and special 17" alloy wheels. And save for the safety lights and decals, its exactly the same as the Trans Am you can buy at your Pontiac dealer. If you hurry. With a limited number of copies available, it's going too have a tremendous following."
So, now along the lines of what you are thinking, Jeff. Could it be possible that this was a converted TA for the '96 race duties and then re-decaled for the pace duties in '97??????? I agree with the Pace Car for '97 being the Grand Prix, and that it's not uncommon for other models to be used for the less publicized events. I'll have to look more into the Carl Black connection if there is one??

Now one more wrench thrown in, actually I think the hood looks like a WS6 hood should............

Hmmm...yeah, from those pics, I'd agree that it is a WS6 hood...the one side profile just looked goofy...

And the closest Carl Black dealership (today at least) is in Orlando:

                        Something else to consider...

Trans Ams did pace Daytona from 93-96...it's pretty long odds, but what if this one participated in one of the earlier races and was just re-decal'd?

Wouldn't that devalue to original car by re-decaling it? Something else to consider is the 1993's are unique, there are a lot of one year only items on the car.

Without any paperwork authenticating it, value is somewhat suspect anyway.

Can they supply a CarFax? Another longshot...but hey...

As a side note, Blackbirds were only built in 2001 and 02...50 built in 01, 52 built in 02...

But this was an interesting post...
