  • removing spray paint from chrome ws6 rims

I picked up a set of ws6 17 inch chrome wheels
That have been bombed black (sucks)

I need to know a good way to remove the paint with no harm
    To the finish under neith.

Dont mind about elbow greese being needed. But would
Like a warning as to how long it will take.

Got 3 of the rims soaking with PB blaster and 1 with brake
Fluid. Going to let it all sit over night and try my luck
    Tomorrow

But still need some input guys.

Yeah theyre chrome. But the last owners used paint thinner on
Them and it looks like it stripped the clear off of them.

So im trying to use a less extreame method

unless the previous owner had them dipped the factory WS6 wheels are polished aluminum with a clear coat on them, not chrome. Only difference this makes is using any harsh chemicals like thinner or strippers may also take the clear coat off as well. IMO this is better anyways because then you can polish them to actually look more like chrome.

0000 steel wool is safe on chrome and might do the trick.

Thinner normally won't hurt factory clear unless its left on awhile. We use thinner on paint all te time. Believe Matt uses it on tagged cars too.
just wash off as quickly as you can

Hell I used acetone to get the goo off the side of my car when I took the moldings off and it didnt do much.

                  re

Yeah you may be right. I grabbed some air craft remover and
Im gonna try it. Ill polish these babys up and throw some
315s on the rear and 275s up front and give my z28

                  A nice foot print.

I would not advise you to put 315s on a 9" wheel, if they are nittos (which are notorious for running more narrow) then, ah nope not even then would I do it.

Are you sure it's paint and not plasti-dip? If it's dip it should peel right off.

I'd try to peel it before using chemicals.

I'm going to dip the wheels on my TBSS - do to the fact they aren't all nice and shiny anymore - if I like it, I'll get them coated later.
