I'm looking to make my power more on the lower to mid end of the engine. Maybe all thru the rpm range. Not looking for a full on race cam. But something that sounds good thru a full exhaust system but shakes the ground with open cutouts or headers.

Sounds like you're looking for something with an intake duration in the 220's @ .050" with a tighter LSA. I wouldn't get anything bigger than that for your needs. As most everyone's said, AI makes great cam kits and they'll spec all the components for you to take out all the guesswork.

May I ask why? A fully spec'd cam kit by someone like AI is especially good since you want a list of every part necessary for it to work perfectly. They will give you that.

That said, I think a cc306 will be way too big for your goal of "power more on the lower to mid end of the engine." For that, a cc503 is about as big as I'd go and would be my choice for off the shelf. I also used to run a Lunati 60121 cam which I really liked for a driver but is on the smaller side.

Having done the cam swap myself and putting a CC503 cam in mine, I'm reiterating that if I could have done it all over again I would have gone to Advanced Inductions and bought a kit like Joel did. It's much more cost effective than piecing together parts for the CC503. If you're going with the Hot Cam kit, then you get everything you need but frankly I'd want better springs than the LT4 hot cam kit comes with as everyone says the springs that come with it aren't the best and are known to float after a few thousand miles...

Not just because I have the hotcam but 90% of people that have float issues are reving the piss out of, over the factory rating. If your doing something that you really need to rev past 6000, you shouldnt have picked a hot cam to begin with.

You may be right - but we all know that a spring upgrade on even factory cams are a good idea... the LT4 hot cam springs are barely sufficient for the LT4 hotcam. Upgraded springs are just a good idea. We are talking about OEM and making things "just enough" rather than "more than enough"

While AI calls their stuff "custom" it really isnt. Its listed on their website, so you call them up and order one like any other cam. plus it came with 90% or more of the parts needed to do the install. Takes all the guess work out of the job. When i did my cam i couldnt beat AI's prices peicing everything together using a 503 cam... So why not get the better performing cam at a better price? The only way i could see a 503 being more cost effective is if you already have some or a majority of the parts needed for the job.

I am running the lt4 hot cam kit for 4 years so far no real problems but really don't rev it that high.
