Okay.. 'm going to convert my 96obd2 to a 94-95obd1. I can't stand not being able to datalog, or use freescans unless I spend a crap load of money for my system. OBD1 is soooo much easier and cheaper. My two options are:
    1. buy a new knock sensor for a 94-94 as well as obd1 pcm.
    2. buy obd1 pcm and solder in 3900k resistor and use existing 96 knock sensor. And that's it, we're now running obd1.
I already have that much figured out.
Unfortunately, my 96 pcm is fully tuned. the tune was 200.00 alone. Madtuner and pcmforless sell this OBD1 converted pcm for 275.00 with a tune. I guess what I'm basically saying is that I'd like to pick up a OBD1 pcm if any of you are looking to sell one, and hopefully one of you guys can tune this thing as it currently sits. This way I can start right where I'm at with the datalogging and everything. I'm surely not ready to tune but would like a solid base to start with. I'd much rather deal with one of the members on here than some mail-order guy again.
    My tune was simple:
LT headers, ORY, full catback, CAI
    EGR delete, AIR delete
    speedo calibration
    skip shift
thats basically it. WOuld like to delete VATS also though. Lemme know what you guys think.

Unfortunately I don't have much to add. There's days I wish my car was OBD2 because of the number of products and accessories (AeroForce Gauge being #1) that are compatible with OBD2 but not with OBD1. But then I hear about the tuning crap and am glad I'm OBD1.

is obd2 that much different software tuning wise? I have both lt1 edit and tunerpro and mines obd1.5 and it seems like everything is fairly simple... I can't see a huge difference between the two but i could be wrong, don't go 24x, BIG STUFF 3!!!! btw who currently tuned your car?

Yes, it's less sensitive than the LT1

pcmforless tuned it. THere is a big difference believe it or not. Can't just buy a simple aldl cable for 96+. I've looked into this extensively! min. dollar amount to start is 450.00. If I had obd1, i could just buy a $30-50 cable, download freescan or whatever, and atleast see my tables, parameters, etc.

Right, when i do this i will for sure upgrade to the LT4 ks. I've always felt that was a good normal upgrade anyway. I would love to do the 24x or delteq but it's not happening. PM me a price on that pcm if you have it. Is it tuned at all?(crossing fingers lol)

There are advanatages to OBD2, but for the level I'm at and what I would like to do, OBD1 is far better for me. From a money standpoint and ease of use, it's a no brainer. I just want to "see" what this car is doing in real time, and with OBD1 I can do that for fairly cheap.

OBD1.5 is 100% OBD1 at the PCM and tuning level, it's just that they put an OBD2 plug in the dash.

Dang that's a lot of $, my cable was 40 and tunerpo was free too I think.. l11 edit requirews a vin # I think, and tuner pro I know doesn't.

Ya I know, I was just saying I had obd1.5 and it was cheap for all thestuff... just wanted to know If there were any significant difference in the tuning capabilites which I don't think there is... it looks like obd2 is a whole lot more expensive though lol. You see a few people on tech that do the switch to obd1, just never knew why, looks like its just cheaper.

You just want to datalog? Not tune?

Then quite frankly, I have no idea why you want to go back to older technology..

Get a $30-$40 cable and use google! There are TONS of free OBDII programs out there, ive never paid for a single one and I datalog all the time.

ScanXL is great, I "ran across" a copy of PCMScan (scanXL's bigger brother) and use that most of the time.

Well I would like to tune in the near future. For now, I would just like to scan and see what needs correcting/adjusting. That link is pretty helpful though. And if I spend anymore time on google I'm gonna lose my mind lol. anyway, are you telling me then that any 16pin aldl cable will work for my car? Because from everything I've read, I've been under the impression that it wouldn't work. Could you provide a link or part# to your cable if possible?

I think you and Joel meant LT4 knock module. Not sensor. There is no LT4 sensor just clearing things up
