  • cooling system question

so ive got a 96 t/a with around 136k on her. ive had it about a 2 weeks. driven it a bit and havent had any issues with coolant level or overheating but i noticed that the radiator hoses are pretty hard even after running for a short time. anyone know if this is normal for these cars and im being paranoid or are they prone to headgasket issues? thanks!!

Not sure if its an issue, mine stay pretty soft but they are brand new. If you are worried then replace them. theyre really easy

Hoses will feel hard after your drive the car because the cooling system is under pressure.

But I would suggest replacing the hoses if they are original as they are over 15 years old.

The number one composite head gasket destroyer is Dexcool, especially if left in the system for extended periods of time.
Its also the #1 intake gasket eater.
Use Prestone All Make All Model, and you'll also drop 2-3 degrees just from that change.

I agree with Brian - you need to replace these items as the hoses can become heat aged and brittle and burst under hot conditions.
Do a full system flush and replace the thermostat while your at it.
