  • !AIR and !EGR?

    Just curious...

Purely for aesthetics and making the engine easier to service, any issues with removing these? For argument's sake, let's say completely stock car, right down to stock Y and cats. Car will be parked in really cold weather, but some early spring/late fall drives would mean a few startups in the 40*-50* temp range.

Would you/have you remove(d), or would you/did you leave them?

from my understanding, the EGR is there for keeping emissions down during driving, and the A.I.R pump is only during use during cold starts to warm up the cats for better functionality. And will probably throw codes/difficulty running. so id say keep them if youre not planning on going the performance route

Only delete them if your going to have them properly tuned out. I did mine when input headers on. I also have no cats.

they are easily removed and not needed, but you will set off the Service engine Soon light. A tuner can tune these out so the light will not come on.
When in doubt, Whip it out !

That's my understanding too - EGR keeps temps/emissions down during cruising, and AIR helps cats warm up at startup. I would absolutely have them tuned out if I were to delete, so, there'd be no thrown codes.

I am planning on some bolt-ons in the future, but I don't think they'll be anything much. Catback, intake, debating LT's.

Reason I am looking to delete is the reasons I mentioned above. More real estate, less "junk" clogging up the engine bay, easier access to the engine.

if you get a catback, its really almost necessary to get LT's and an ORY. And if you go that route i would definitely get rid of them.

Delete that shit. On a LS1 car it doesn't effect anything. You can get the codes tuned out for about $70 if it really bothers you.

I've been told that an OBD2 car will not run without EGR unless it's tuned out, but I'm not sure if that's the case for LS1 cars (is this an LT1 or an LS1?)

What EGR does is reroutes exhaust gas back into the intake charge in the combustion chambers. This decreases the temperature of the combustion, which decreases NOx emissions that are created at high temperatures.

Mine ran perfectly fine before it was tuned out

I think it was only LT1 OBD2 cars that it affects.

Delete. Now. Even my dumbass could figure it out. Its easy, it cleans up the engine bay, and it ditches a couple pounds.

Cool - thanks everyone. Seems there's no adverse effect from removing, even if some feel it's pointless to do so.

It looks like one could use the following from Summit. Seems to be the cheapest solution I have found thus far...

                        Kooks 9125BO (EGR) - $3.24 (need 1)
Kooks 9126BO (AIR) - $3.24 (need 2 - says "EGR", but in the decription indicates for AIR)
                        Dorman 10230 - $2.95 (need 1)

So, in total with shipping just under $18. I suppose you also may want/need some type of gasket, so another few bucks for some permatex copper?

I just ordered a kit from ebay for $14 shipped. Just search lt1 or ls1 block off.
