LTxTech is a great site (I'm one of the admins ), but I'm 100% positive there's a lot of knowledge here too.

Being an OBD2 LT1 your choices are limited. TunerCats is probably going to be your best bet. If you find an OBD2 definition file you might be able to do all the tuning within TunerPro -- and the best part is that it's free. You'll have to use TunerCat's WinFlash to flash the OBD2 computer, but if it's the same price as the OBD1 WinFlash then it's only $30.

You'll notice I said to cover all his bases he should check in over there and do some research, no where did I say there was no knowledge here. When I'm working on something new I try to do as much research as possible before jumping in. I was just trying to give him another option.

im prety sure we already answered his question but ill say this... converting to obd1 was a great decision.... but i already had CATS tuner.... i tried that tuner pro... its not a great program, just stick with CATS or LT1 edit.

Having no experience with TunerCats, I'll take TunerPro (free) over anything I've used TunerPro quite a bit for datalogging and tweaking tunes, it works great.

You cannot tune the 96/97 PCM's just by plugging in a cheap cable and using the free software

Side note, anyone with EFILive want to let me borrow it? EFILive can tune 97/98 LS1 PCM's for free

i have it... (EFIlive) i make small adjustments to my dads 2002... for some reason 1286rwhp apparently isnt enough for him LOL but i played with tuner pro and the whole lay out of it is well... you can see why its free LOL but i do my logs with data master. but like i said, one of the best things i did for my own ease was convert my 97 SS to obdI. but for next years meet and greet ill bring down both laptops and if people want to make small changes ill be happy to help them out. im no pro tuner... but i do know and am very confident making your basic switch table changes... right now im trying to acquire this local 94 Z28 thats bone stock to just practice tuning, and play with different things, car has a bad trans and a grenaded rear which is a super easy fix for me...

if you plan on revving past 7K 24x would be the way to go... but my car should make close to 700rwhp on an optispark a obdI PCM and planted with a 10 bolt to those that say you cant... suck a D***!! LOL said with love of course!!

You sure? I googled on LS1Tech and there was talk of there being an OBD2 LT1 definition file for tuning with TunerPro. Granted I didn't see the file in any of the posts, but they made it sound like there's one out there?

The cable is the main item. You need a pass through programmer
