  • 1995 trans am A4 trans hits hard into 2nd

My trans am is hitting hard from 1st to 2nd while driving normal

It will come up and hit my trans tunnel like i need to replace the
    trans mount.

So i replaced it and its still happening.

Checked my motor mounts and they dont seem to be bad but i did have a loose
Bolt, tightened it and it still does it.

I did check my tork arm and its missing the bolt in the rear
    By the diff cover.

    Could this be doing it?

I also have a shim between the trans and the trans mount
Could that be it? Its always hit. But doesnt do it as bad or ay all
    Under load

if the transmission is physically hitting the tunnel, you have big problems. Hard to say what it is without seeing it.

I cant tell whats doing it. I know my car has a bad tps on it and from what ive read it can cause high line pressure and bad gas mileage.

Also my cel is on now but my cars a 95 so its obd2 under the dasg and obd1 under the hood.

Does anyone have a scanner to help me read these codes?

And i need some help with this this combo didnt do this in my other car.

Could my y pipe be hitting my frame since i have longtubes?

I do have a theory though.

My ypipe is put together with those autozone exhaust sleeves and clamps
And one of the clamps is close as hell to the frame on the drivers side.

Under heavy take off it doesnt hit hard or at all because my motor is shifted over enough so that the bracket hits my frane and makes me think its my trans.

Im going to stuff some rubber in there later and take it for a drive and see if it hits.

Because on my last car i felt alittle hit but it was my y pioe.

OOk i figured it out what it was. Its my tork arm hitting my trans tunnel

I can see a wear mark where its been hitting. I even took a video
Of it hitting. Now my next question is how do i fix it?

Checked the mount it looks ok. But could it still need replaced?
And it looks like my tork arm goes in toward the drivers side when looking at it from the back. I suppose i could try and put a bolt in it.

But the bolt hole isnt lined up and i think its going to be a pain.

Does anyone have an extra tork arm bolt and nut? And does anyone know what size socket ill need?

You're missing the top bolt on the torque arm mount?! No wonder That bolt is the only reason that the torque arm stays in the mount. Are you missing the mount and the left side shell as well?

Oh, just go to your local hardware store and ask for a 8.8 or 10.9 M10X1.5X30 flanged bolt.

def sounds like the torque arm is hiting the inside of the tunnel

It was hitting. But no i need the bolt in the rear end. But my mounts rubber bushing is split in half.

Going to have to replace that too.

                  Thanks for the help guys.

Just remembered i didnt tell what helped it all out.

My tps was bad. 21.99$ and 5 minutes later no more hitting.

But i get a wobble when i hit my brakes from 70 to 0 i think thats my missing bolt in the rear end and a combo of the bushing being ripped

The torque arm shouldn't be a source for a wobble in the car. I would suspect bad control arm bushings.

I was thinking its my rear end shaking cause of the missing tourqe arm bolt.

Letting it pivot from side to side. Along with a ripped bushing doesnt help.

I can not find a bolt anywhere though. I guess its junk yard time again

Just find a grade 8 bolt to replace it with. Lowes, Home Depot, NAPA will all have grade 8 bolts.

The torque arm only controls the pitch of the axle, the control arms control the yaw, and the panhard bar controls the side to side movement.

I think I kept my stock bolts, but new hardware can be purchased. Spohn 982, UMI 3003, etc.
