  • Problems! O2 sensor...

Ok guys, hopefully someone can help me out here. I was recently driving and the SES popped up. Soon after the car started to Idle really heavy and shake tramendously. I got the car home, but on the way the SES light began to blink, I figured a misfire. So i scanned the codes i have Cylinder 2 Misfire and i also have the O2 Bank 2 Sensor 1 code (Passenger Front) So i'm guessing i have a fouled out O2 sensor, which is causing the Misfire? Anyone else have a problem like this...before i go and shell out $75 for a new sensor? Thanks Guys! This car is a huge pain to drive! lol

I'd recommend checking out the lead wires to it, making sure they aren't burned/etc... but sounds like you need to replace it(maybe both).

Try swapping the 02 sensor with another one.

If the code follows to the new location, you can bet it's the sensor.

Checking the wiring/connectors (as already stated) is another good idea.

Swap the sensor and see if it changes, if so make sure you buy the Bosch corvette rear O2 sensors they are more tolerant to Longtubes and have a lifetime warranty I have to by a set when I installed my Headers and prior it had similar problems.

ah ok, so a bad O2 can cause a misfire then? Just making sure im not dealing with two problems, and when you say swap, do you mean swap the left and right fronts? I have sim's in the back.

don't swap with a sim just swap the left and right fronts, if it says the swapped one is bad then change it.

Did you check the plug on cyl.2 ? Loose wire? If you have a flashing SES it is a multiple missfire on that cyl. Unburnt fuel is probably soaking your O2. If you fix the missfire your O2 might be still be OK.
                  A bunch of bolt-ons, heads/cam, LT's 9" rear, 4.30 gear. Best on Nittos 11.90 @ 120.4 w/ 1.89 60'
                  SOLD.

Yeah the code is showing the front one having the problem, i have sims in the rear though.

Yeah i am going to mess with the wire/plug, but won't the O2 also cause a misfire? depending on if the wires and plugs are all ok.

Just a quick little bit of info of how the ECM acually knows how your getting a misfire.... The crankshaft position sensor is actually what detects the misfire. It does this by the crankshaft speed... as every cylinder fires the crank actually speeds up... so when say cylinder 2 doesnt fire... the ECM knows becuase the speed of the crank. Pretty cool huh?

Go to autozone and tell them you want a Corvette rear O2 sensor. It'll be like $85 but they are the best ones you can buy and have a lifetime warranty. They are Bosch ones but I forget the number.
