  • Won't turn "on"

The battery is newly charged and is putting out the proper voltage. When I put the key in and turn it to "ON", nothing happens. Gauges do not turn on, radio does not turn on, etc. And there is no reaction when I try to start it. It is a 97 3.8 manual. I checked all of the fuses and they are all good. Not sure what my next steps should be.

Take the cables off the terminals and clean them, it could just be a crappy connection. If that doesn't work, you might be looking at a VATS issue.

      Does the security light flash?

Security light does not flash. And the terminals are clean and making a good connection. The headlights are bright as can be, so I assume the connection is good.

If its broken, hit it with a hammer. If its still broken, hit it with a bigger hammer. If its STILL broken, its electrical, and SELL IT. Buy something more reliable like a Jeep or something....

If the gauges, radio, etc doesn't turn on I would imagine it's the body control module.

haha thanks eric. seriously though, the interior lights go off when I put the key in the ignition, but then when I turn the key to "on", the lights come back on. Sound like lock cylinder to anyone?

Never heard of a lock cylinder issue on fbodies.

the car had been sitting for a while so the battery was pretty dead. So I charged the battery and put it back in. It is at full charge, but when I turn the key, the dash does not turn on, and the interior lights come on. It is almost as if it is not going to the on position

I'm not sure how noticable it is on the 3.8 v6, but do you hear the fuel pump relays click or anything for that matter?

I dont hear anything. No relays clicking, pumps priming, etc. I think I have narrowed it down to the ignition system...unfortunately.
