  • help with gas lines (true dual/torque arm clearance)

Hey Everyone, I need to re-route my gas lines to the side of my car and I honestly have no idea where to start. My car has 3" true duals on it, and when I originally setup the exhaust I tucked up my factory gaslines a few inches higher than stock to keep them away from the hot exhaust. I fully admit this was a hack job on my part but it worked in the short run. This has resulted in my new UMI torque arm being in direct contact with the gas lines. My driver side muffler is also hitting the new torque arm but I think if the gas lines are completely removed, then moving the muffler an inch or two away from the center of the car will not be a big deal. Any recommendations on materials or tools? Writeups?

I don't want to spend a ton of money on this, but I believe that this project needs to be done. Not only for fire safety reasons but also because the stock torque arm is not handling my power level... the bolt holes are elongating and the lock washers I had used were destroyed from the compressive friction. The bolts were still tight when I removed the stock torque arm this afternoon.

I am going to put the stock torque arm back in for now so the car isn't dead in the water while I plan this project.

Are you planning a fuel pump swap?

Eventually I plan on running twin 255lph in tank to a to a single -8an line out, run it on the outside of the rails, up to a 1 -8an in/2 -6an out Y Block, and feed each rail independently.

    Along these lines.

Nope, i have no issues with the stock fuel pump. Trying to keep this as simple as possible.

Go to parts store, get fuel lines, and bend new ones haha.

You could cut the lines from where they come down from the tank, compression fitting, then bend some new ones to the outside of the rails.

By the way, nice job on elongating those holes. Its just a universal fit torque arm now.

If you want to keep it on the cheap, go to a auto recycler and look for newer diesel dodges and fords. They have nice, long, straight sections of 3/8 stainless steel hard fuel lines that they will likely give away for next to nothing. Bend them up to close to the pinch weld inside, or if necessary, outside ( i cant exactly see how your sfc's sit). Then you are going to never have to worry about upgrading fuel lines again

My dad thinks he can get 3/8" line from work but he isnt sure how to connect to plastic line at the front of the car.

I also just looked things over again and noticed that one of the lines is actually a brake line.... so this just got more complicated

You mean the plastic lines running from the lines under the car to the fuel rail?

              These?

When you flare the new line you need to make sure you have a screw on fitting on the tube before you flare it, they just screw together.

You just need to find the correct size.

Honestly, its not cheap by any means but at this point 6 AN lines would not be a bad idea for you. There's enough non oem stuff going on under there and throwing random lines under there and bending it all up is a shit ton of work.

You can get 20ft of 8an from summit for 100 bucks.

No, those are rubber hoses TJ - the plastic lines have a different kind of connector towards the front of the car.

Ill have to look into the 6AN, getting cleaned up for woodward now. I'm new to all this vocabulary

Big thanks to Fred for coming over and helping me get it back together with the stocker!

yep.. i would start looking at upgrading to a -6AN line. you may spend around 200 bucks on both the fittings and lines but it will be well worth it..

The plastic lines should have a quick-connect end on them, I know there's quick-connect fittings that screw onto the metal lines somewhere out there...

Do -6AN all the way up to the fuel rails and relocate them in the engine bay so that they come out the back of the wheel well and run under the cowl area where they're mostly hidden. Really cleans up the engine bay.

Sounds like exactly what i should do.

What should I do with the vent line? I need to figure out where to relocate the fuel filter also, but im hoping that will be easy.

Pretty sure vent line can stay or do you mean return line?

Id just mount the fuel filter on the outside of the frame. The reason the fuel lines and such are mounted inside the frame is for car crashes.
