  • How fast is a 4th gen stock. Debate with a friend.

I have a good close friend of mine that has a long time friend of his that races pretty hardcore with big blocks in G bodies. Anyway, my friend swears that he's seen tongs of LS1 fbodys at the track that are stock or near it like mine and that they aren't as fast as you'd think, 14-15 seconds in the quarter. I looked up some timeslips on LS1tech, and based on those I seriously doubt that. I plan to run mine next year but that will be after some mods hopefully. Anyway, I figure my car is a low 13 sec car the way it sets, he thinks I'm way wrong. Especially after I told him that if I get a stall, headers, gears and a tune this winter that I don't see why I won't be well into the 12's.

Anyway, am I just way off, or is he? I'm not going to bring it up to him anymore, but I'm just tired of doubting what I would like to think I have a good handle on knowing what my car and others like it are capeable of . Maybe I'm on crack and don't know it. lol.

Low to mid 13s easily. Many guys on here like Vince and Johnny run with just catback cars and hit 13.4s no problem and GETGONE ran a 13 flat bone stock. GMHTP even got an 02 SS to run a 12.9 in some heat, the LS1 cars are fast stock it just takes a good driver and some track prep.

Thank you Jeff. So I'm not nuts. I've told him I'm going to take my crappy 2.73 geared untuned Slowmaster cat back Camaro to the track this fall yet just to prove a point, lol.

Yea i gotta go with Jeff on this one. Good 13 sec pass is possible in a stock LS1. All about driving and prep on the track.

                If I run a 14 I think I will sell my car.

i dont think either of you are wrong. jasen the times you are looking at are peoples BEST ET's. Especially when it comes to a 6 speed car, you arent knocking on your best et's door everytime you make a pass at the track. There are a lot of things that come into play that can make a 13 second car run 14s all day. Track prep, temperatures, quality of fuel, driver skill, how much weight is in the car (full tank - 1/4 tank), etc. etc.

A few of you guys saw my car slam home a 13.6 at lapeer. before and after that I went to US131 and couldnt do better than a 14.1. However comparing the two... lapeers timing setup is considered "questionable" by some, and the conditions were perfect. good prep, 70 degrees and no humidity, and i had a half tank of 94 octane. At 131 it was no less than 90 degrees out both times with 100% humidity and i had a full tank of 92.

My only point is, dont go out to the track and expect to manage other peoples best times right off the bat. They are best times for a reason. Ive probably got 20-30 runs in with my car and not even 10 of them were 13 second passes... yet i still pulled a 13.6 at some point.

                    Hey Joel,

Well, I understand all that, there is a lot of factors. And I know I won't nail my best time the first few runs. My point is that he's trying to tell me that they've never run that, and he says he's never seen even ones with cat backs and a lid run in the 13's even. And he's talking LS1 cars too, he knows the difference. So, IDk, the guy is like a brother to me and this is the only thing we really disagree on. I guess I just needed somebody to back me up cause I was sure I knew better. I won't bring it up to him till I show him he's wrong. lol.

if he says he's never seen it happen, i gotta agree with you. LS1s should be in the 13s out of the box.

yea stock LS1 Cars have the ability to run 13's flat all day with a very good driver and the right conditions, i ran a 13.7 with a bolt on LS1 at Lapeer spinning through first and most of second not even launching, i trapped a 110 with a time of 13.7, thats garbage, that trap speed should have me in the 12's i just need better tires

wow, you must have horrible traction. My car did a 13.6 at 104.5, and that was with a 2.2 60 foot!!

My street tires arent the best either, only thing i have that might be considered a traction mod is subframe connectors.
