I had headers, 1.6 rrs, ported intake, 58mm tb, and a bunch of other stuff and the hot cam was a good street cam, but I just wanted a little more power. With all the big horsepower numbers coming from the "big three" factories these days, a hot cam just can't compete.
I need more power then that, 13.3s is keeping up with mostly stock ls1s I thought.

Then I would definitely look into something like Joel's set up. I am sure he could fill you in more.

on stock heads I would go cc503, with heads worked I would go gm847, over them all I would go custom grind.

I love the way my car sounds with the 847. The only thing is I have to spin it so damn high. Idk if I am on borrowed time or If a previous owner has done something to my bottom end, because I have hit my rev limiter a few times at 6800 with no problems (yet)lol.

I think LT1's bottom end doesn't mind high rpms, it's the opti that gives us LT1 guys high rpm scares. I switched to a Dynaspark to cure that issue and have had no high rpms issues as well.

dont waste your money on a dynaspark its just an expensive opti i have seen fail id go with a ls1 pcm swap if you could. and yes its not the bottom end its the opti that is correct.

If it's an opti, it's going to fail at some point. The LTCC is the way to go by far, but for me the dynaspark was half the price of the ltcc and has worked well.

fred did run almost dead even with me this is true.

that said I still recommend my setup to anyone. It does everything well. Put down 373rwhp (at the 5850 rev limiter so could have made more), gets 26 mpg highway, excellent driveability, chops like a mofo, and has excellent bottom end torque. I can start a race from under 3k RPM and it doesnt even matter.... the power is there throughout. While a balls-out race against a hotcam car might compare, the power down low is where the difference will be.

One thing to note about my setup - it wants to breathe! Every intake/exhaust enhancement i have done has benefitted it, and I am running 3" true duals now.

I 100% agree with this but if you want to spin a stock bottom end you should do the white oil pressure spring mod. Its cheap insurance and i believe not having one is the biggest reason people ever spin bearings. I've run the dog piss out of my stock 100k bottom end and its mint. Its been road raced, autocrossed, and drag raced over and over again.

I forgot you had gears... yea, im still running the stock 3.42. A 4.10 might be a little too much for me, my car delivers the power well the way it is. and more importantly: even though ive snapped throttle cables i havent snapped that 10 bolt yet

if i got a beefier rear end id still stick with a 4.10 i def wouldnt go below a 3.90 the car feels like it was ment for it.
