  • LT1 Cam Reconmendations

I am wanting to cam my car this winter, since I now have a winter car and will be able to store mine.
I plan on eventually getting some nice heads, but not within the next year.
I want a good cam, with a choppy idle and good power.
Something that can be ran on stock heads, with spring upgrade.

    Looking into a GM847, GM 306

    Any suggestions welcome

Get something custom ground. Off the shelf GM cams are weaksauce. Advanced Induction is a good place to start looking

Hate to say "copy joels setup", but for real copy joels setup.

The kit that Joel bought has everything you need and I think is honestly the best route. Even if you don't go with 100% the same grind, I'd go with the same kit that he got.

I <3 my CC503 cam idle, but I think Joel's is much better.

everyone is a hater but my lt4 hot cam kit ran dead even with joels current setup and if your looking for budget its best bang for your buck. of course both cars are untuned and his will gain more out of a good tune possibly i would say. he is also running at a higher compression rate and a much better intake and exhaust setup id say joels car is a great lt1 and very streetable car.

I had the hot cam in my car for about a year and was a little disapointed with it. It sounded good and had a nice idle, but the performance just wasn't there for me. My car is currently getting a cam swap as we speak. I went with a 232/240 lloyd elliot cam and some trick flow heads. Some people like AI better, but either way I would go with a custom grind cam vs. the hot cam. The custom cams are pretty fair priced too.

ill agree with you ryan the lt4 hot cam wasnt the monster mod i wanted it to be when i first got the cam (didnt know much when i was 17 lol) but threw a 6speed with 4.10s and a full exhaust i am pretty happy with the car as a whole. has a great powerband i feel and handles more then my fair share of races esp since ive started working on my suspension and stopped wheel spin from rolls

That's what i am running too, 6 speed and 4.10s. I had a mail order tune, so maybe that wasn't up to par. This time I am getting a dyno tune.

I'm running 13.3s without a cam now, all stock engine.
                            Just headers and CAI

It all depends on what you want to do with the car. I think the hot cam will keep up with a mostly stock ls1. If that's good enough then do a hot cam. If not, go bigger. I had headers, 1.6 rrs, ported intake, 58mm tb, and a bunch of other stuff and the hot cam was a good street cam, but I just wanted a little more power. With all the big horsepower numbers coming from the "big three" factories these days, a hot cam just can't compete.
