  • To all WS6 ram air owners

I have modified my hood today and figured id pass the info on, as may or maynot know there is about a 1/2" gap between your hood and air box which lets warm air in and lessens the ram air effect. i sealed the gap between the two using a weather strip. the strip is a universal weather strip made by Metro- sponge super soft weather strip door weather strip. its about $30 and will do one car door, but you can get 2 or three hoods done with this roll so if ya can get a buddy to go in on it with ya it'll be cheaper. i got it from auto zone and sucured it with weather strip adheasive i also removed those b.s. baffles but would not recomend doing so if you drive in the rain alot. it sealed it good enough i can feel the motor drawing in air through the hood at idle. heres a few pics

there ya go hope this helps someone lol

Ive been meaning to do that too but i just repainted my nostrils and dont want to have to take them off yet, did you just cut the baffles out with a dremel? and do you think the sealing will last a long time? Looks like you did a pretty good job.

You got any leftover stripping i could buy off you possibly?

to get the baffels out i i carefully driled all the heads of the rivits out that conect the baffles to the hood the used a punch to push the rest of the rivit out. the rear baffle will now be loose and will come out the large opening with a lil playing around with it, next is the tricky part above both nostris the baffles were riveted (now drilled out) and glued. you will need to remove the grilles from the nostriles this aid in seeing what you are doin / prying. i used a normal size flat head and a 90 dregree big pick. if you have pry through the nostrile just put about 4 layers of masking tape around the nostrils where you think you might hit them and you'll be ok as as long as your not prying on the lip of the nostrile. as far as the weather strip i have plenty left over for 1 more. ill pm u with the info. i think it should hold up pretty good being weather strip it holds up to opening my car door every day i dont open the hood nealy as much so i hope so lol

as far as yours not being a ram air hood is no biggie, slp makes a cold air/ram air kit for your car that consists of the slp lid and a scoop that comes from the bottom of your car up through the bottom of your air box its a bit pricey though, i think the kit runs bout $200 i would watch ebay and the forums forsale adds

I guess I'm not familiar enough with the WS6 hood fit, that doesn't look familiar to me.
Did the WS6s really not originally come with a fitting? or did they just fall off some of the cars?

For those who leave baffles in, remember not to seal the bottom of the opening.

As far as i know none of the WS6 hoods came with a seal, i have never seen one. Thank you all for the support and good comments.

I wouldn't recommend that SLP kit. The SLP kit will suck up water from the road sometimes in heavy rain or if you hit a puddle hard. Its called the FRA (free ram air) mod. All you do is open up the openings in the bottom of the airbox all the way back, then cut slots in the top of the air dam for the radiator which is directly below it. Cool air from the high pressure area in front of the radiator is then let into the airbox. Doesn't affect cooling one bit either. I did it to mine 2 years ago, made a difference going down the road, car was more responsive. Plus, its free vs any tiny gain you might see from the $200 SLP kit. And, it should work on all 98-02 fbody's.
