Hey guys, just curious if you see any reason to keep the hood insulation on. I know its obviously to protect the hood, but I see some cars with, some without. I think it'd look better without but if its going to protect my hood paint, I'll leave it on. Most older cars I've had don't have it. Anyway, thoughts?

Mine has it and it looks hideous, but the hood isn't painted underneath and it kills me to have to leave it on.Doing less with more

My car didnt come with one.. and I bought it new. The underhood doesn't take much abuse and that sheet of material can actually increase the rate of decay under there because it holds moisture. I'd take it off if its easy to remove.

Mine doesn't have it either. I think it's pretty much up to you, just make sure the under side of the hood doesn't get too hot or else you'll get paint damage!- Brian Meissen

Well, its got water stains from where its gotten wet and dried, plus, I think orange would look a lot better than that thing, even though it does have a bowtie molded into it.
I can't imagine that's going to get that hot under there that it'll screw up the paint, I would think if anything the sun would still do more damage. Idk a lot about paint though so. I think its coming off.

FYI, I took it off this weekend for the show. It was all painted orange underneath and I think it looks way better, way better. And I did put about 40 miles on it, and a couple hours cruising, and it seems to be fine, I don't think it'll bother the paint at all. Just in case, I still have the insulation though, anyway here is the pic from the show that Brian took, they are also in the #1 of 6 Berger Pics thread.

Exactly, it had water stains on it. Plus it only covered maybe 1/2 of the engine at the most so I can't imagine it was doing much for noise with 1/2 plus not covered, in fact it didn't sound any different afterwards. I'm happy with it, love all that orange.

Mice made a stinky mess of the hood insulation on my thirdgen Formula. I wish I had pulled it off or had traps set under the car before the arrival of the mice. I pulled it off after the damage but the hood does not look nice with it off as GM did not cover over the primer around the braces.
I know this is a very old thread but I just found it via Google when looking for advice on my insulationsigpic
