  • 385 lt1 running a little warm..

My 385 lt1 is running a little warm...like 190ish. She's forged internals @ 12:1 comp (unless my math sucks). I was worried my compression was a little high so I normaly run a mix of blue and 93. I've dumped my heatercore and the oil cooler/tb cooler if that's got anything to with it. I'm also running the orange dexcool coolant. Is 190 even bad or am I just being a worry wart with the motor being new? Since I removed all the other systems the coolant normally travels through maybe it can't cool fast enough and I should drain a little and bump up my water content to thin it out allowing it to cool a little faster?

Yeah like Ryan said that is fine. A little warm would be like 230° 260°

And another thing.....when I gun the motor, I want the whole world to think it's coming to an end.

Yep, that is perfectly fine, especially if its sitting there idling. Drive it out on the road where there is air blowing through the radiator and it will be even lower

          Don't stock LT1's run at like 200-210?

          I know LS1's do.

depends on thermostate, I put a 160 in Brians car and I have a 160* in my bird both run consistantly at 160-170*. However not running high compression. What therm. do you have in the motor?

my car runs at about 180. Remember strokers run a little warmer and yours probably isnt quite broken in yet which means it could run a little warmer from that too. Id say you have nothing to worry about..

where are you getting this reading from? I highly doubt that it is running at 160-170*, you must be reading it off the POS gauge in the car. That is much too cold

Negative, all the LT1s that I have seen/driven run just above 180* when the car is moving >5mph. If they sit in traffic on a hot day it will get up to 210* though

thats because the only ones left running around these days are making pretty decent power
