Fred it doesn't mean you need a hoist. I put mine in on the driveway you just need to have the wheels off the ground. I had no problems with my install. I am planning on putting the 3point in my 02 z but that is because I road race the car.

This is not a needed item if all you do is drive on the street. If you do a little research they are not really needed unless you plan on racing, or tweaking the chassis. The fourth gen cars are much better in the chassis stiffness department than the thirdgens. I did notice a big difference when I put them on the 83 but I have heard they don't make a huge difference on the fourth gen cars if your not auto-x ing or road racing.

Yes indeedy, S and W does have quality parts. I have S and W under my ride. Speaking only for myself, because to my way of thinking, other brand sub frame connectors probably are able to this as well. With my sub frames, I am able to lift 3 wheels off of the floor at one time with one jack. Seems like this is a pretty good testament to how stiff S and W makes your chassis. Just sayin

Thanks for the heads up, planning on doing true duals at the same time though.

Now Im kind of torn, the S&W sub frame is more but the torque arm is cheaper then the spohn stuff, so it ends up being about the same chunk of change. Might go that route, so on yours did you just bolt it in and leave it or did you end up welding it?

dont consider anything else than weld. if you have doubts....weld it anyway.

Can't you get a bolt on model, then once all of your "questionable if it will fit" stuff gets installed just get it welded? I'm interested for future purposes

yes you could always weld on bolt-on pieces.

Just bolted in. I could of taken the additional time to weld. However, I couldn't see welding as I will never run big horsepower and torque. Not trying to sell you, just throwing out another suggestion. Decisions, decisions

Oh! If you do decide to go with S and W. You're going to have to figure out a way to get your car high enough off of the ground to allow the clearance you're going to need for the under body work, yet low enough at the same time so you'll have access to the interior, all the while the weight of your car is on the tires/suspension. Car will have to be level as well.

Ask me how I know. S and W's will NOT mount in without the above being followed. Trust me on this!

what everyone else said....as long as you still weld it, lol

IT VERY IMPORTANT THE VEHICLE IS SUPPORTED IN A SIMILAR WAY TO WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ON THE GROUND. Especially if your going to weld them. It might not very apparent on 4th gen hardtops but on converts, 1st and 2nd gens, and olders cars your door gaps change dramatically if the car is supported by the subframe. Ideally you want to install them on a drive on hoist but next best thing is so support the car by the axle, and the outer most portion of the front lower control arms or front tires if there is a safe way to do so.

If you are going to bolt them in I would suggest starting the bolts by a few threads then put it on the ground and tighten them up, and later welding them up if you choose.

This thread reminds me that I want to make my own sub frame connectors.

Well I emailed the S&W guys last night, asking some questions about clearance for full length headers or a true dual setup etc etc. The response I got wasn't encouraging...

Copied response from S&W typos and all:

"Hi Joshua, if you go on are webb site when you are on the home page click on catalog and go to page 11. There it will show you are frame connectors. When you are ready to order give me a call.Anything else we can help you with let me know. thanks!!!!!"

....WTF? I know you sell subframe connectors, that's why the part number I was asking about was included in the email, I just want some info on clearance. What the hell man? Furthermore whats with the asinine amount of exclamation points? Maybe I'm just getting cranky in my old age but this is hardly a professional response to a customers question. Oh well, I'll just email again stressing what I want to know, maybe the poor guy has to answer 50 stupid questions a day and was a little spaced out.
