To answer your question, no, it dosent end. Mechanical parts will fail with age and use. My best advice to you is to replace the tierod ends your self and take it in for an alignment. You should have around $100 into it. Eric L

Yup, thats what I ended up doing. 18 bucks for lifetime warranty Tie Rods and 160 for a Timkien Wheel bearing. Went for an alignment and the tires were already so bad (prolly from driving with bad tie rods and wheel bearings) that they couldnt do the alignment. Had to buy tires, $464 out the door for 4 Hankook 245/50/16's ?? dunno if I got hosed, but all new rubber = alignment makes it feel like a different car.

Well as long as it drives well, I'd be happy! $464 is not bad for 4 tires. Where did you go?

I was at Auto Lab at 18 and Dequinder for the Alignment cause they were the cheapest I found for that (40 bucks) and then he showed me the tires, front were horrible on the inside and the 2 rears were dry rotting bad so I asked how much for tires and it was 464 out the door so I didnt really feel like driving all over and calling 100 places and it seemed reasonable, so I just figured the heck with it and got em.

                    1. No, it never ends.

                    2. Few things make your car feel and handle better than a new set of the best tires you can afford.

                    3. It does get better -- when I start updating my project thread again, you'll see how I went from almost $1,500 a month for the first couple of months last year, to almost nothing this year. For 2010, it's been a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Pluses, a set of new intake manifold gaskets, then I just drove it and enjoyed it. Everything else has been just appearance and cheap bolt-ons that were not necessary and could have been deferred.

                    Hang in there!

Yep, same here. Knock on wood, but I havent had to do anything (except, like noted, by choice) to my car in years other than maintance. I did a powerwindow motor 2 years ago for about $40, lol. Eric L

i think a wheel bearing has been the biggest mechanical failure ive had with my car. there have been other problems but most of them were all my fault

                          err...my clutch failed?

How can your tires be too bad to do an alignment with?

                          Used to own a Firebird.

Sounds like alignment shop BS to me. My tires are JUNK.........................total junk. Dry rotted and im still rollin on them, lol. They are so hard they wont wear anymore. I need new ones, but they still have tread on them, lol, I cant. Eric L

                              Welcome to my world.

Although..it probably should be said, if you are spending over $200 per month on repairs - it's time to leave it as a project/hobby and get yourself a vehicle that's more reliable.
Irregardless how much you love the vehicle, it doesn't make financial sense to put more in parts to an old car month-to-month than what you could drive in a new vehicle.

Actually, I've heard this from several places. Part of it is Liability. Most shops won't even take the tire off the vehicle if its bald or dangerous. They will only take it off to replace.
If the tire pops and the individual gets killed, or causes an accident due to a known bad tire, they could be liable.
