Despite my heavy interest in road racing and autocross, a light flywheel is one thing i will never do. I drove nates old car with one and i hated it...

edit: If there was a semi-light option available i would consider that.

    • You can always go with one of the lightweight steel ones, around 18 lbs I believe. Once my dash comes out I don't think I have much use for driveability. I honestly can't see it being any worse than my old VW.

      • Would it be possible to just mill the stock one down more than a typical resurface to lighten it? Or would this throw off measurements? Ive found some posts that hint at it being possible (IE oem reman flywheels that are lighter being sold at autozone, etc). I think taking a few pounds off, lets say about 5, would be an improvement.

        • I put a 2lb lighter than stock into the black car and loved it.

It was an Advance Auto special.

          • Yeah im assuming that was just a cut stocker. Curious how much you can cut these things, ive heard of people resurfacing them as many as 4 times.

            • decided I am sticking with the stock flywheel. Too much headache and cost for a small gain.

Nothing wrong with a 6 speed. I actually wouldn't mind owning a cruiser with a manual. When it comes to racing I'm sure everyone knows where I stand on the subject.

I think I recall putting a big orange stripe right up the middle of that firebird

                              • couple progress pics. got a new flywheel, putting it back together this afternoon. old one was effed, it seems that the shop that machined my flywheel last time screwed it up. It wasnt milling correctly and it didnt wear even either... no wonder it always chattered. Huge thanks to bri2203 for letting me borrow the trans jack.
