You know the check engine light is on anytime the key is on but the engine is not running right? There could easily be no codes at all. Especially if the light went out when it started, would make perfect sense.

So I go to check spark today. Pull off a boot and stick a screwdriver in it. Crank it, all of a sudden, VAROOOM. So kill it, try starting it again, i have to crank for a few moments and it starts again. Its like a put put then faster put put then sounds normal. I dont have to give it gas to get it to start up though. Killed and started it a couple times then took it for a spin. Ran great... Idle was normal, kind of sounds like its missing but Im not sure, its only at low rpms. I think im going to replace my coil today. The one thats in there looks old and I think that might be the problem. Would a faulty TPS cause this?

That's awesome to hear! Were you giving it gas trying to get it to start up before?- Brian Meissen

No, but it did this before and then when i let it sit for a while then it wouldnt start again. While it was running I went and got a new ignition coil and tps. The plug practically fell off the coil from corrosion so i scraped some of it off inside the plug and used some pliers to make it hold tighter. I hope that was it. Installed new coil and it fit snugly, replaced the tps because it looked old and corroded. Car fired right up, my performance seems a little better but best part is the new tps. My car will now shfit at WOT from 2nd to 3rd where before it wouldnt even come close. It still isnt running as good as I think it should. Im going to pull my plugs tomorrow and see if any of them are shot. When i pulled that wire today to check spark I noticed the plugs were NGK. What do you guys think of Irdiums? It looks like someone did a tune up in the last year though because the plugs looked real clean. yeah its only the outside but usually they get grimey on most cars. Any suggestions for plugs and wires? I want to check fuel pressure just because I feel its not at its potential. FPR's usually go bad?

You can see if the FPR is bad two ways - yank the vacuum line that goes to the FPR off and see if it's wet at all or if the vacuum line smells strongly of gas. If it looks OK, start the car with the vacuum line off and then plug the vacuum line in and see if it changes RPMs at all. No vacuum on the vacuum line side of the FPR makes the FPR think you're at WOT so your RPMs should go up a bit. I don't know how much but it will change.- Brian Meissen

does it matter if its the the side of the line that plugs into the fpr or the side that goes into the mani?Originally posted by meissen View PostYou can see if the FPR is bad two ways - yank the vacuum line that goes to the FPR off and see if it's wet at all or if the vacuum line smells strongly of gas. Sorry - gotta remember to check these threads I reply inOriginally posted by regularshmoe View Postdoes it matter if its the the side of the line that plugs into the fpr or the side that goes into the mani?
I don't think it matters which side you unplug but if you unplug the vacuum line from the FPR you'll immediately see if there's any trickles of gas coming out.
