Thats why they call it 1.5. Its a pain cause you have to get a special cable.

While the PCM is 100% OBD1, the wiring is *present* - though unused - in some areas for the beginnings of OBD2 in 1996. It's just called "OBD1.5" because of the obd1 pcm with obd2 aldl plug.

That is an inapplicable analogy. A 15 peice puzzle is easier to solve than a 1500 peice.

Thats why OBD1 is good for learners. Its not as automated of a process (good for learning) and there is less to take on all at once.

Some have claimed more HP with OBD1 but its probably because they didnt know how to tune good with OBD2.

In any case i am convinced that niether is better than the other in this case. Im with James I hate OBD1 because its primitive. yet I honestly prefer it because its cheap and reliable.

Hands down best option is deleting the opti and converting to an LS1 PCM anyway.

i prefer obd1 in the LT1s i converte my 97 to obd1... less crap to adjust too! (im running speed density so even less!) the 96-97 obdII is stil vey slow to tune. plus tunercats FTW

              @ joel,

You dont have to use all 1500 peices, if you figure out what is supposed to look like after 20 than the other 1480 are a waste of time

Is that a question? I didnt say you didnt, but with the additional sensors and error codes more information is available, weather you use it or not is up to you. I PREFER to have it, which is what the OP asked...

On an LS1 like you have i fully agree, but in its primitive stages on the LT1 it had a greater tendency to be problematic.

IMHO, OBDII looks for problems where it dosent need to look. For instance, on my pickup (2000 chevrolet K1500 5.3 auto) It throws an evac code it you dont put the gas cap on tight enough. I dont want to deal with that crap on my camaro. I go off of the kiss theory. My car idles smoothly, runs great, and has never given me diagnosing problems in 7 years. Its great for a DD, but problematic for something that your going to stray from stock with. Thats what I was saying. Eric L

I dont like the emissions codes either, so I shut them off.

I think OBD1 is the way to go, because you can pull the codes with a paper clip. The poor mans scanner. OBD2 costs atleast $100 to purchase a scanner to pull codes.
