Took me too long this time
19hrs
The little extra tweaks here and there and trying to find a 18mm x 1.75 plug to block off the extra o2 bungs killed me.

They still go in from the bottom. but dont mess around with trying to unbolt the motor mounts to lift up the motor (dont know if you did that anyway). Get the car pretty high in the air so you have room to angle the headers at almost vertical. They should slide up with no hesitation if you do it right. I only took my alternator and steering linkage off and that was it. NO need to take the starter or oil filter off. Most of the 6 hours was actually taking the old exhaust off. a good impact and odd extensions help a lot

The LPP's will not go in unless everything is off and the motor is lifted or K-member dropped because of the style.
In fact some people are lucky they don't need new steering linkage and have to cut the K-Member just to get them in.
Ya it took me a while but a lot of it was taken up in fabing the steering linkage so it would clear the headers.
I didn't have to remove the oil filter, never have.
But thanks for the input, I'll keep it in mind.

really adds to the look of that engine bay. I just love seeing those pos ugly stock headers ripped out. unfortunatly i still have the pos stockers but i dont have the patience for a lpp install. nice work!!

my trick is tipping the engine on the mounts. gives you SO much more clearance. usually you can bolt them on and then see where your clearance issues are this way too so you arent pulling em back out 3 or 4 times.-Joel

Ya, I lift one side then the other.
It takes longer but I only put them in 1 time.

I think one of the 1st things I would do is eliminate the Opti.
Sounds weird but some people have good luck and others don't.
I would get rid of all the EGR and AIR system for easy starters.

If you want to do headers I would also do springs and rocker arms at the same time.
Reason is you can fill the cylinders with air and keep the valves up so you don't loose them down in a cylinder.
There are a few directions I would go but it also depends on what kind of money you have too.

headers are definitely the mod every LT1 needs. The opti has not been a problem for me but eliminating it with an LS1 PCM offers so many more benefits. I cant wait to do this to my car, but its not gonna happen for a while.
this is why LS1s have such an advantage in a stock-for-stock comparison. period.
