Yeah, the Lt1 and LS1 pumps are definitely different judging by your description, Derek. On the LT1, the bucket is sealed from the factory, so we just pry it apart with a screw driver, stick the new pump in, and then glue it back together. Pretty straight forward and easy.

OK I'll post this for the record. I'll eat crow, on doing the trap door, it definitely is easier than dropping rearend, muffler and heat shields. My big objection to cutting hole is if you have a rear end accident. and tank ruptures and now through trap door gas can come into interior, and fumes from exhaust can enter interior. We sealed the hole very well and the odds of an accident etc is probably very low. I would do the trap door on my bird if the pump goes kaput.

Yup 98 was the last year for metal. I believe capacity went up a tiny bit when they switched to plastic? Anyone confirm this?

The one thing that one one ever seems to tell you is that this process it just a tad harder on a convertible. If you look at the pics on page one after the piece is cut out, right where the lines hang a sharp left, on the convertibles there's a brace going across the trunk area that is too thick to cut threw so you can't go as far back with the hole as you need to. You lose about 1"- 2" of room to work with so disconnecting the lines and pulling the unit out is almost impossible.

                  Camaro Fuel Pump

I have satrted replacing my fuel pump via the tra[p door method. I am having difficulty getting the sending unit with the new pump to reseat and align. Any specific way the unit should enter the tank to make it eaiser?

thats always a PITA for me too. is yours spring loaded? mine i have to put in at an angle, and try to keep the sending unit pointed towards the rear of the car and set whole thing down straight.. not sure how else to explain it.
