steering linkage

well guys, my header install didnt go flawlessly. it appears i royally screwed over my steering linkage. The steering had ZERO play in it whatsoever before i did this job, now there is like two inches, which is absolutely terrible Im almost positive i messed it up putting it back on, because i really had to beat the piss out of it to force it back on. I dont know what the deal was, it slid right off no problems... but it ended up needing some dremel adjustments and the help of a cro-bar and a hammer to go back on. I dont think that should have been necessary, but anyway i dont know what to do now. i cant leave it like this, its terrible. any ideas?

My luck im gonna need to dish out 150 bucks on a complete new setup that will also destroy itself going back in

unfortunately i dont think its an adjustment... the majority of the play is where the linkage mounts to the steering shaft on the firewall thanks for the link though

that sux man. I know its different for the LT1 but the LS1 has atleast 2 ways to put headers in. 1 remove steering or 2 grind a small casting locator off the side of the block. I did the grinding so i wouldnt have to deal with what your going through.Good luck

i have a bad feeling this might be the first time my car will go to a dealership... and they arent gonna like those headers lol. I just went out and drove it to see how it was, i can definitely get around fine, went up to 75 no problems, it just doesnt compare to how it was before.

that looks different, but i think ive heard of LT1 guys using LS1 linkages to free up space, so i will definitely look into it. thanks!

what did you dremel? they should only go on one way. Sometimes you have to use a chisel or screw driver to open them up a little. They need to be pretty tight to get the looseness out.

all i did was dremel the inside of the of them to get rid of the rust and stuff that was making it harder to slide on. i didnt do much more than that... I also did the screwdriver thing but it didnt seem to do anything short of destroying the screwdriver.
