  • 4 bolt mains?

Everything I have read on the net says that camaro did NOT come with four bolt mains unless they are an LT4. When I had my bottom end off it HAS four bolt mains. is this not the original engine in my 97? Is this a 'vette LT1? Was I high on drugs? This is exactly what the botom end of my engine loks like:

All the Camaro LT1's were 2 bolt mains to my knowledge, and even the LT4 Camaro was also a 2 bolt main. The Corvette however, was a 4 bolt main. I have no idea why but I did some research before I was about to buy an LT4 T/A with a Corvette motor...which I did not buy.

      Used to own a Firebird.

You arent seeing things, there ARE factory 4-bolt cars. GM used corvette blocks when they ran out of f-body blocks. It is documented to have happened, but I dont think anyone will ever know how many were actually produced like that. You are lucky.

Hell yeah! My build date is 12-96. I just ran the block number on www.mortec.com and it said it could possibly be a 4 bolt main. Well something positive has come with this car! Lol!

Was the whole 4 bolt main thing only on '97's?

That and I believe they can handle higher RPMs with more stability.

I was always told 4 bolt mains were the ones to build up because they are built stronger.
