Well, the kinks keep on working up.
Starter does not have a heat shield.
Starter is not shimmed - there were no shims on it when I took it off.
Starter has had the casting grinded (ground just doesn't sound right) down because the flexplate's counter balance was hitting it.
Sunday after driving home from Milford (45 minute drive minimum, 1hr max), I backed into the drive way and then turned the car off. Angie said I could back up more so I went to start it and it just would click once - a very solid click, but only one click. Dan [mcssmostwanted] said it was probably heat soaked from the headers and to let it sit. I let it sit for about a half hour to an hour and then tried it and it started right up.
Today, I came out to my car to drive home from work and it did the same thing again. But it had been sitting for 3 hours. This time I kept turning the key, click, off, key, click, off, key, click, off, key, click, off, key, click, crank, YAYYYYYY!!!! Drove home, backed in the driveway, and with my dad standing there I turned it off and immediately tried starting it again and I had no problems what-so-ever. Tried turning it off and on about 5 times and every time it started right up.
So - what's the verdict? My dad thinks the starter needs to be shimmed, I think the starter is going bad because of the heat from the headers and not having a heat shield on it.
