  • my lazy ass finally pulled the motor.

ok so yesterday my lazy ass finally went out to the garage and pulled my motor with my buddy. so overall it only took a few hrs. everything went very smooth which was nice. so i didnt do to much after puting it on to the motor stand. but the only major problems i found with the motor was the 3rd rocker arm was not even on the valve spring, there was a huge chunk of aluminum out the the rocker arm which is now shot, so that obviously was one issue i have. the other issue is my buddy took my oil pan off which had only minimul metal shaving in it, but the only major issue we found was the pickup line to the oil pump wasnt even on the oil pump anymore!!! it was just laying around free floating in there... which obviously is a problem. so besides that those are the only 2 problems i have found so far with the motor. in the next few days i will tear everything else down and keep ya updated. oh yea... there were a ton of metal shavings in and around the oil pump but no where else did i find anything else soo once i acess the damage i will decide to just buy a used assembled block or rebuild this one. ... if anybody has any suggestions i am always interrested... i am not to educated with this stuff yet. so im learning as i go....

Cross your fingers and check your bearings - with the pickup tube off you might have some issues with oil starvation possibly. When you put it back together, have the oil pickup tube tack welded onto the oil pump itself and then it won't come out again.

Hands down, REPLACE ALL THE BEARINGS & LIFTERS!

Crank, Rod and Cam bearings or you will do this again in the very near future.

Take the cam to and engine shop and have them look it over good.
A little bit of money now will save you a ton in the end.

Make sure when you remove the caps off the Rods and Crank that you mark how they are assembled so they can go back the same way.

some pics of the motor. some pics of the mashed up rocker arm. and there are also pics of how the pickup line was sitting when i took the oil pan off. thats exactly the position i found it... just hanging there not even hooked up. I dont really have any pics of metal shavings. this is after i took the metal shavings off the the oil pump. so i found a few but not much.

Those look like self centering roller rockers, lifter must of failed for it to shift that far. When you put it together you might want to consider push rod guilds as insurance. Ok oil pump pickup tube came off you had to lose oil pressure so lifter failed and rocker shifted. Make sense, I bet your mains and rod bearings are bad if you lost oil pressure.

yea deff lost pressure.. because when i first noticed the problem i took the one vavle cover off (of course the one without the damaged rocker arm) and oil was just slightly getting up, i thought oil should be spitting everywhere..? right?
