Hey. I was wondering what is the safest and best technique for properly burning out in a 4th-gen LS1 automatic? What my friend told me is to hold the brake down with one foot and then press the gas with the other and it should work. I tried it once and I didn't like the noises coming from the back so I stopped. Someone else told me doing that really screws up the car. If anyone could tell me the best way to burn out, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

what he told you is correct. you wont hurt anything, but what kind of noises are you hearing?

that's how I do it. Called power braking it. stand on the brake and then press the gas down. What noises are you getting? I just hear tires spinning and squeeling, lol.------------------------------------------

did you turn off your traction control? cause that'll make some weird noises especially if you are trying to "brake torque"/ burn out like that....
that's the only way to do it in an auto though. unless you get an SLP line lock so that your front brakes will only go, then you can stand on the gas to your hearts content and watch your tires go

well no matter what you do you are hurting the car when you do a burn out... biggest thing is remeber to let off the brake not just the gas when your done... let it roll out of the burnout to reduce the stress on the motor and trans... you will heat everything up and put stress on it doing a burnout but not enough to kill it if your car is in decent shape... hold the brake hard apply the gas slowly let off the brake and push the gas down more... burn out 101... lol make sure you have room to do it too if you get traction you will take off fast...Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. If you don't turn off ASR which is traction control it won't spin the tires and it makes funny noises. I do them just fine with the techniques mentioned above and will be investing in a line lock soon too.Doing less with more

brakes shmakes, lol. Rears do like %10-%15 of the braking anyway, who needs em, lol.
Seriously, here's how I do it. Turn the asr off, hold the brake (you don't have to stand on it) and ease into the throttle, that means don't just nail it, but get into it quickly but not abruptly. You'll notice the tire spinning sound and then some smoke. Once I have smoke I back off the brakes a bit so she'll roll, she kicks sideways for a bit, and when she straightens I bump into 2nd (sometimes kicks the ass back out a little) and keep going gradually backing off the brake, by the time I catch full traction I've got enough speed it just equals out. Oh, and usually you can only see the front half of my car or less when I back out of the brakes.
Its a beautiful thing.

you only need to apply enough brake to keep your car from moving. if you have the brakes stabbed, your gonna have a lot harder time doing a burnout.-Joel

You won't say brakes shmakes when you start replacing the rotors and pads from doing burnouts. Of course I assumed he was talking about doing proper burnouts @ the track, but I'm sure he was curious for street reasons. The burnouts are easy for me, seem to do it quite often from a 35 mph roll.Last edited by zspot98; April 29th, 2006, 11:15 PM.
