Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

usually its the main bearings that fail though, so compression test is really just a gauge of the overall health of the engine. Good oil PSI and good oil is gonna be the most important thing when putting the bearings through that kind of treatment.
But anyway Im glad you feel that way because im going to be winding my 93K mile motor nearly to 6400-6600 starting this summer.

I've done a whole bunch and haven't had any of them fail. had a couple start to smoke but they had been rode very hard for a long time. as far as OP goes I wouldn't even do a compression/leakdown on an engine if the OP wasnt in the ballpark. I've never had main bearings fail me yet.

Ok guys I put off any buys till spring, But I have cash for a 306cam and a 3200 stall converter
My motor has never smoked even with the 130k miles never replaced the bottom end when the motor was out never needed to, I took the car to storage few days ago beat the piss out of it while my dad was following me for 60 miles said it never smoked once in this could weather, So my motor is fine, but im not pushing it to the limits, When i have the cash to play with the big boys im going 383, nos, and my 306 cam.

I'm actually very partial to the 306, I ran one for years in my LT1 and LOVED IT! that cam loves compression. I went 11.80's on motor on 93 oct. with a th400 full weight the 306 is a great choice.

Mainly why Is because I don't want to take my motor apart again for a year and right now i have a small 502 cam lol. which is kinda sad but hell it makes good enough power for now
I'm just looking at frame/ body parts now to stiffin up the car.
just about any cam with some decent overlap loooves compression. Aside from the pain of trying to get my spark map right, you wouldnt even be able to tell that my car is in the 11.5:1 range now.

has more to do with than just overlap, but my lt1 was 13.1 to 1 with 93 oct I didnt have any problems with my timing

i had the 847 in the old SS, loved it in the 6 speed! great power and pulled till i wanted to let out it is a high revving cam, but i will say this, the 847 kicks the poo out of the cc306!

my 306 never got beat by a car with an 847 lol 847's do sound decent tho.
if the 847 had stock heads I could believe that, but otherwise from what i have seen and read the 847 is the one that is going to win.
There are a LOT of people running around with 847s and stock heads and its really not the best combo unless youve got happy gas to go with it. Then on top of that many dont have a good tune capable of realizing the volumetric efficiency and the result is a slug a baby cam car will have for dinner.

yeah the 847 realy needs headwork to shine. mine deffinately got with the program, but mine was also a 10.8:1 355 with some headwork and other things. but i cant play big dick with it any more as its long gone now.

Don't be down on having a small cam. LS1 cars with 224 cams are making over 400RWHP cam only and have been known to lay the smack down on some big cammed cars from time to time
Having the biggest cam doesn't always mean your going to be the fastest. A baby cammed car can take out a car with a donkey dick cam any day if its set up right.
