get a 3200 or bigger converter IMO especially with a big cam like that trust me it won't be worth it to do anything else, I run a 4000 stall on a daily driven LS1 car.

My stall converter was supposed to be a 3500 but ebay people lie

well if you look at some of the cams your deciding over you'll see that the manufacturer recommends a 2500 or higher converter because they don't really start making power until 3K as Joel said. Having a converter that is a little above that will be optimal for your setup and will eliminated any dead spots, steeper gearing is also ideal but can be made up for with the converter.

I would go with a custom grind. No reason to settle with anything less.

I have to rebuild my bottom end next year but i dont have the cash right now.
So I'll be getting the 306 for now, my dad says the 847 is to big for me. and Won't let me get that. i might be able to buy his 306 cam from him and save 40 bucks
I've built cars with both cams, the 306 is a very good mid range cam and fair high end, but the power goes flat and hardly falls @6800ish so it has a long powerband. the 847 loves rpm and seems lazy compared to the 306 on the bottom but once you get them goin they make power. stock heads do choke thats why you have to over cam them and spin them! I seen an 847 make 368rwhp on stock heads. BTW 7000 rpms all day long on stock bottom ends will live. 1 3/4 primarys a must

both are great cam shafts just two different animals

ehhh, i disagree with that. There are cars living up to that abuse but it doesnt seem to be status quo. Id consider being that gutsy if you had one of the lucky cars that came with factory four bolt mains.

if the engine is in good working order when you start, passes compression and leak down, doesn't smoke. it will live. I have cars out there with stock bottom ends going to 7000 with spray. and they live, they just ware out a little faster like anything else when you beat the hell out of it.
