  • Super.

55,000 miles on my V6 and the cat is junk. GM did real good with those apparently.

Recommendations for a QUALITY aftermarket cat please?

I wont be dealing with it until at least the new year, im taking the insurance off right now anyway. On the bright side, maybe it will actually have decent throttle response when its fixed.

I don't if it will help but if its under 10 years or 100,000 miles gm has to replace it(federal law I think).we had a 94 T/A that was over the 36,000 mile warranty(about 70,000) and they took care of it. research more not sure how far it goes, just trying to help.

I am under the mileage but i thought it was 8 years? My car is a 99 which i am pretty sure would no longer qualify.

yea double check the warranty on it first. Then if they don't cover it, get a carsound cat for it. Straight pipe sounds like garbage on the 3.8

Cats suck. Be glad you don't have five, like my dad's E-150...he replaced all of those like a year or two ago...

That's what he told me. It has at least four. I think two on each bank before the Y, then one after.

                        It's ridiculous.

Well, I just called the dealer and it is 8 years 80,000 miles so they will not cover it.

Looks like carsound it is, where is a good place to buy one?

                            I just had another thought.

I have a stock Z28 catback I got from a member here Id like to put on this car when i get the cat changed. I just remembered I have the stock y-pipe & catalytic converter from my Z28 up in the attic.

I think i might get that down and see if that cat would weld up, there wouldnt be any problem with using a bigger cat would there? Im thinking it would work as long as the positioning is relatively close.

if you can make it fit, bigger is not a problem. worth a shot if you have it laying around anyways
