  • Bad noise (Video)

So lately I've had a slight ticking sound coming from my car, I pulled a valvecover and turned the motor over ect. and found nothing visible from that and also ran Seafoam in my oil for a few hundred miles to clear carbon buildup and possibly free up a collapsed lifter if thats what it was. The noise stayed anyways but never affected the cars performance so I drove it now and then. Well today on my way home from work it suddenly became a lot worse. Any ideas would be appreciated guys I wanna know what it could be, I believe its defiantly the valvetrain.

other than it being annoying as all hell it seems to drive just fine, although I didn't really get on it.

I've been told mine are noisy fuel injectors or fuel pressure regulator.

        And yes, it's very annoying.

Thats not the injectors, Unfortunatly that sounds like something internal. Have you adjusted your valvetrain at all to see if that helps

Then again, mine sounds different on video. Mine definitely originates from the intake. If you put your finger on the regulator, you feel the pulses to go along with the ticking.

get a stethiscope if you have one or a long screwdriver and put it do the engine and listen fot where the noise is coming from.

Well as I said in my post guys its definatly a valvetrain issue ie rockers, pushrods, lifters ect. I could never see my injectors or fuel pressure regulator making that kind of noise and I wouldn't trust whoever told you that. Also LS1 don't have adjustable valvetrain per say everything is torque to spec with the correct length pushrods and the motor has been running fine long after the last cam swap.

Hmmmm that video scares me Jonny because I think it sounds similar but at the same time mine is always there and his seems to unstick at times and then bounce around again. I'm gonna pull a valvecover today or tomorrow and hope its a needle bearing or the like.

Oh, yeah, nevermind. Mind does NOT sound like that.

Mines a very fast ticking. But it is the fuel system, that's what many on TGO have said.

hmmm, its sort of hard to compare considering the immense amount of valvetrain work you have done where as my buddies car was stock with exhaust. I dont think they really sound the same, his is much more dramatic IMO. However looking at the driving video, for being so cool (water temp) your oil pressure seems a little on the low side to me. Usually cruising at the RPMs you were at i am at about 60 psi and at 45 or so at a 900 ish idle. Even when its warm i'm still at or above 40 at idle. Tear off the Valvecovers and hopefully you find something, if not, get ahold of me and we will figure out which shortblock or order and we will have it in your car over the weekend!

Look at my oil pressure at the start and end when i'm just under 3k RPMs like in your vid

My oil pressure has never been great, even right after installing my ported Ls6 oil pump so I wouldn't take that into too much consideration.

Id pull the pushrods and see if any are bent. It sounds like that could be a possible culprit. Also when you did your headers..what gaskets did you use? have checked for exhaust leaks off the headers?
