I just got into my new project, a 1999 T/A. We removed the alternator in the process of pulling the cradle and I noticed a 6.0L casting on the drivers side of the block. I have no idea where the identifiers are located for this engine so please help! Is there any way to identify it without pulling the motor?

I believe they are located just under the cylinder head but its on the back side of the block
Any pics of the 6.0 on the block? The head castings should be right on the front facing side.

There is no casting #'s on the heads, it is a machined surface. There is "0113" cast into th right deck of the block just in front of the heads. Here is the 6.0L on the drivers side of the block in front:

Don't know anything really about the car, it was inside of a trailer waiting to be put back together. It was a project that was passed along because the previous owners did not know hot to finish the work. After doing a little research, it looks as though it may be an LS2 engine but won't know until I can get to see the block codes. I do not know what lq4 or lq9 stand for or where to find them, can you please explain?1999 NBM T/A w/6.0L LQ9, SLP Lid, SLP MAF & Bellows, SLP CAI, SLP Loudmouth Catback, 18" C6 Z06 Replicas and more to come!!! well its not an LS2 because that block is iron not aluminum and I think I've seen that car for sale before on craigslist, glad someone could pick up that project though. What are your plans for it?
LQ4 and LQ9 block are LS based truck blocks, essentially the same as an LS2 but made of iron.Doing less with more

The only plan for it right now is to get it back together. Whoever crashed it decided to take an up close and personal look at a pole. It just came back from the frame machine on thursday. We went to go replace the cradle today and ran into a problem. The replacement cradle that came with the car was for a V6, one of the previous owners bought the wrong part. So I'm looking for a new one right now. Hopefully it will be complete and painted in the next couple weeks...1999 NBM T/A w/6.0L LQ9, SLP Lid, SLP MAF & Bellows, SLP CAI, SLP Loudmouth Catback, 18" C6 Z06 Replicas and more to come!!! (

ok, I have determined it is either an 2001+ lq4 or lq9 by the "317" stamped on the heads. How do I find out what it came out of though and whether it is an lq4 or lq9? Does anyone know a trick to getting the number off of the block by the bell housing without pulling the motor?1999 NBM T/A w/6.0L LQ9, SLP Lid, SLP MAF & Bellows, SLP CAI, SLP Loudmouth Catback, 18" C6 Z06 Replicas and more to come!!!
