  • Where to jack up?

Where do I place the jack to get the front end of the car up in the air? Where I usually jack from there is a DO NOT JACK HERE stamp. Trying to change my oil and my tires are too wide for the ramps.

i jack up at the control arms, right before they meet the front of the cross member... there is a spot that fits jackstands well. If you need a spot further back, then the frame-rail right next to the "do not jack here" blocks work well.

yes k-member works too... for some stupid reason i thought i read you couldnt do it there.

so to clarify, when changing my oil i jack up on the k-member and put the control arms on jack stands.

your car should have some plastic blocks that are meant for jacking the car...right by the do not jack letters (which refer to not jack where the fender skin attaches to the inner fender

Plastic blocks??? DO NOT JACK WHERE THE FENDER IS!!! The bottom of the fender comes down and bolts to a steel tab on the car. DO NOT JACK THERE!!! I had some idiot do that on my V6 and crushed both sides. Look a little further inside of where the fender tab is and you'll see a thick drop down area that is where the front subframe is. That's a good jacking point for a floor jack from the side if you only want one side up. I jack from the center of the K member but I have to put it up on ramps to get my jack under there because it's so big. I use Rhino ramps and have no clearance issues or width issues with the tires. I need to get a set of short ramps I can drive onto with the rear so when I need to get the whole car up at once.
I have a Mack brand jack from Walmart that has a cut in the lifting point that's meant to be used on factory jack locations on body pinch welds. I usually use that do jack one side of the rear up enough so I can get my floor jack under the pumpkin to lift it the rest of the way up.

i used to jack it up on the k member but cant now since its lowered

just jack it up on the k member and put the jack stand under the plastic blocks

WHERE are these plastic blocks you keep talking about? The only plastic under my car is the bottom lips of the fenders.

later 4th gens did not have them...

I think they stopped putting them on in 98

there basically strong honeycomb-like plastic between the fender and frame rail
