  • Need help with electrical problems in my car

    Problem numero uno

The list continues to grow. First the tabs on the power window/lock bezel were broken off (so I bought a new one). I hooked up a new one and one of the wires came loose. I should be able to solder(sp?) the wire back into place no problem, right? Well as of a week ago, to roll down my windows, I have had to take hold of the wires and connect it with my hand. But lately that hasn't been working either.I checked the fuse for the power windows and that isn't the problem. Any ideas on what it could be?

    Problem numero dos

My radio won't turn on, but it will eject and recieve cds(but not play them). I think it is because when the wire came loose from the power window/locks, it connected with another wire shorting it out(let me know if that sounds right). I checked the fuse for the radio and that wasn't the problem.

    Problem numero tres

The light that is behind the speedometer doesn't work (making it impossible to see how fast i'm going at night). I'm fairly sure it's just a bulb, but how do I get to it to change it? And what kind of bulb do I need?

    Problem quatro

My horn works only when it wants to. I've already asked and from what you guys have been saying, it's something to do with a relay. But that's the least of my worries right now.

All this stuff is happening one after the other, I don't see how any of it could be connected with one another. All and any help is appreciated. As well as any estimate on how easy it would be to fix or how much it would cost to fix.

Thanks ahead of time. And sorry for writing a book lol

    1. I would assume you could resolder, but Im not familiar with the older interior. Also could be the dreaded fbody window motor failure, where the little metal resistance strip inside the motor fails and renders it useless, just a guess.

    2. I got nada on the radio.

    3. Since you have the older style interior I THINK you have to just about take the whole dash apart to get to the cluster, then I think you can just replace the bulb, again not 100% sure.

    4. Im guessing its also the relay on the horn issue, try a new one?

get a tester to see if your problem's are getting power to them. Checking fuses is always the first step

I was thinking the motor was going bad anyway, but at the moment, and me being 16, i don't have any money to spare.

If your dash is any where close to a Firebird you should only have to pop the bezzel part off that surounds the instument cluster then a few screws and your whole gauge set pops out if my memeory serves me right.

We need to get B in here, he just had his whole dash apart.
Maybe send Brian a PM and see if he can give you pointers on the light problem.

If you get a Hanes manual from the auto store you can figure out most of your wiring problems with the diagrams in the back.

So now my main concern is the radio and windows...I can figure out the dash problem more than likely. But my radio has me stumped. When I get a weekend that I don't work, i'll work hardcore on it and try to get everything done. Thanks for all the suggestions and if i get caught up on something i'll give brian a PM

If my brother wouldn't have just sold his car I could have tested it with his. Bit from the sound of it, my speakers still have stuff coming through them, but the radio is just completely dead
