I dont see how that could be the fault of anything but the headunit dude

I'm just glad it's something that simple...I should b able to buy a new head unit right? Or do I have to buy the whole assembly?

if the H.U is aftermarket and you have a faceplate that pops out you can order a faceplace from the manufacturer.. I lost my Alpine faceplate last year or 2 years ago and had 2 order another one..cost me about $85

If you were to get a different one ..then you would need a different kit.

IMO Pioneer and Alpine are right on par with each other, they are the only brands i will buy for head units. I put a pioneer premeire in my truck, alpine in my car and an alpine in my dads boat and i am happy with all of them. The sony i had in my old truck though was junk in comparison.

And mike as long as the new head unit is the same din (size of the faceplate) you should be able to re-use the mounting kit. The sony you have is a single din. for example a headunit that was 50% taller would be a din and a half, and twice as tall a double-din.... but most are single din anyway so dont worry about it.

So if I find a pioneer or alpine HU that is the same din as my current set up I should be good, correct? How much should I be looking to spend?

correct, then just transfer the colors to colors(wires) that is of course is the headunit was done right..(using a plug in harness)

Joel, did you install the current radio? Or was it there from the previous owner?

previous owner did mine, however i have done my fair share of head unit installs. usually its a piece of cake, just matching wires and splicing.

I have a deal on the same model that I currently have for less then $100 for everything. It's sony, yes, but i'm a little short on money at the moment. Good deal?
