  • Help with Alarm Install!!!

Alright everyone, I need some help.

I decided to save a few bucks and gain the satisfaction of knowing it was done right, and I dove into a car alarm installation. I got everything hooked up, and it works great, except for the power door lock system. I just can't figure out how I need to wire this in.

Most cars use a relay setup so that when the system is at rest, or not being used, the wires are at 12 Volts constantly, and the locks operate by grounding out the wires.

1993-1995 F-Bodies, however, used what's called a "5-Wire Reverse Polarity" door lock system. This system doesn't use any relays, the power goes to the 3 position door lock switch, which then sends the power directly to the door lock motors.

My next point is that in the 1993-1995 F-Body with Factory Keyless Entry, there must have been something wired in to make the factory system lock/unlock the doors, and I'm hoping that I can simply tap into that system. Otherwise, I'm going to have to figure out how to wire up a relay system so that both the alarm, factory keyless system, and in-car switches work.

Another snag I've hit is that the power door locks are disabled after the dome light goes off upon exiting the vehicle, so I need some way to "Wake Up" the BCM before the power door locks will work. Unless, of course, I can tap into the existing Keyless Entry System. . .

Any help will be much appreciated. I just don't want to blow any more money than I already have on this without being sure that it will work. . .

Does anybody have any ideas here? I'd like to get this done before work at Noon. I'm also working on hooking up an actual alarm siren that I have lying around rather than using the factory horn, I don't like the way the horn sounds. . .

Nevermind, I used my electrical knowledge of relays and switches to wire up a relay setup that will convert the negative output of the alarm to the output that is needed to make the factory locks work with the system. I also was able to wire up a relay to the siren, and the install looks and works like it was professionally installed. You'll all see it at Woodward in a couple of weeks. . .

Now if I could only get some time when the engine wasn't hot so I could hook up those gauges. . .

with your knowledge you made something? its called a 451M. and in no way should you have to wake up the BCM

all our firebirds are 5-wire setups (as you already know)
the passenger switch is master, you can reach and connect to the wires in the passenger kick panel.

if you have factory keyless the wires will be red/black and orange/black in the kick panels. Negative trigger.

          This is Directly from Directechs.com

Non-keyless versions: Use light blue for lock and dark blue for unlock. The passenger switch is the master switch. 5-wire

Keyless versions: Use red/black for lock and orange/black for unlock. Both wires are located in the passengers kick panel at the keyless entry module. Do NOT use the orange power wire at the keyless module or door lock switch to power your door lock relays.

if you got it to work cool... and what brand alarm you hookin up? how does it not have a + siren output...

I didn't have the add-on module to make the connections with the 5-wire, and I didn't have the wiring diagrams or anything either. I only knew that the BCM was behind the pass. kick panel, I didn't know which wires to use, but I knew they were in there. I found out from a friend that the orange/black and red/black wires controlled the door locks from the keyless entry, and I knew how the system had to be run, but I didn't have any way of actually making it work. I wired up a couple of relays from my Sonoma for the power locks, hooked up another one to make the power hatch release system work with the system, and yet another one to reverse the output to 12V+ for the alarm siren. It came with a (-) output for the siren because it didn't include a siren, it was made to be hooked up to the car's factory horn. I didn't like the sound of my horn "chirping", so I used an alarm siren I had lying around from my Mustang, and went to work.

I accomplished a lot on the car today, including nearly completing the alarm install (just need to get another couple of relays to wire up the starter kill and dome lights), wiring up 2 of the 3 gauges I just installed in my car, and I managed to even clean the car out (somewhat).

            Next project:
Aluminum Driveshaft Swap and Poly Trans Mount
