I have a 95 camaro m6 Z28. It always takes a few extra cranks to start. Probably norm is to hold key for 10 sec to start. If I let it sit for more than an hour I try and start it for probably 20 sec, let off start again and it will start. Any body have any ideas on what it might be?

sounds like a week fuel pump or a plugged filter witch will cause a prob like that. check fuel pressure and see if it holds when it set for an hour or two.

Yeah, definately sounds like a fuel issue.

      You getting spark?

yep getting spark... if it is fuel pump I have heard that it is in gas tank and you have to pull rear axle to get to it?

@#$@% I'm sooo pissed right now. Bought this car yesterday, probably listed to it start five times, it took at most 1 extra turn to fire. Get it home and shut it off, then start again later and this starts happening. Don't know if I'm going to mess with it or just have an actual mechanic do it. Kind of strapped for cash right know with just buying it.

That sucks bro - same thing happened to me, pretty much. Bout a month and the pump went.

Check fuel pressure first, then change the fuel filter, and if that doesn't help, then it's likely the pump.

idk but i feel like you're not getting enough power through your battery cables or something...is it turning over or not?

i would bet money your fuel pump is on its way out

you can always do the "trap-door" method and save alot of time/hassle

i just went through this whole issue a week ago. before it stopped starting, it felt like it was cutting out in the upper rpms..(4k +) u should of noticed that driving home on the highway if u were getting on it. few days later, the car just wouldn't start at all. it sat for a month and i had it towed to collins automotive whos a sponsor on here. he got it to the shop and he said it wouldn't stop starting so he wasnt sure. he took it out for a drive and fuel pressure dropped halfway down the road and it died. fuel sending unit &/or pump was bad. point of the story being, it can cause some strange issues. its expensive but i'd just have the whole unit replaced while you're in there. some people have cut a hole in floor so they didn't have to drop the tank to fix it, although i'd never do that to my car. just a possibility though if youre short on cash. either way i wouldnt mess with fixing it myself.

for labor youre looking at 350-450, for some aftermarket fuel pumps you can get them around 150, and for the whole sending unit around 400-500 (includes new pump)

if i lived close by i would give you a hand. but to do it with out cutting you need to cut the exhaust take off the lower controle arms, panhard bar, brake lines, remove everything. exhaust cut since most are welded in place more thyan likley in your case. then remove the heat shield unbolt the tank then lower it carfull not to catch the wires since you could cut them. takes a few hours to a good day. and in your case alot off pb blast. ive had my rearend out alot so the bolts wont break on mine.

as you can see, a long story without a defenet answear.

thanks for the help guys, I think I am going to take it to my mechanic on monday and see what he says. I can do small jobs like brakes and oil change and that sort of stuff but this sounds a bit out of my league

yep it will crank just fine, can't get it to fire consistantly

i suggest doing the trap door method where you cut a hole in the flat area immediately behind the back seat. You dont want to drop a rear end, exhaust, and a gas tank for that. It would take you an entire day just to GET to the pump if the rear has never been out before.
